Calvin Russell from Florida, a five-star wide receiver and the country's No. 5 prospect in the 2026 class per 247Sports, has amassed more than 40 offers throughout his recruitment, but several programs are standing out to him these days, including Syracuse football.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Russell, a standout rising junior at Miami Northwestern Senior High School in Miami, was re-offered a scholarship on January 20 of this year by the new 'Cuse staff, led by head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown.
In late March, he took an unofficial visit to the Hill and said via his X page that he couldn't wait to get back for another trip to the Orange. Down the line, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up taking an official visit to Syracuse football. Stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, based on some recent comments from recruiting analysts, it seems that Russell is impressed by Brown, his assistants and the 'Cuse program.
Syracuse football is recruiting 2026 five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell hard.
While his recruiting process could have a way to go, in an article last month from 247Sports national analyst Tom Loy, Russell discussed some of his top suitors. This was a subscriber-exclusive piece, and I want to respect Tom's work.
However, in a post on X that accompanied the story, Loy noted that although his recruitment "remains wide open," teams that to date "have done a phenomenal job" with Russell include the Orange and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Florida State.
Mike McAllister, a 247Sports analyst who is the top expert out there on Syracuse football recruiting, also noted in a post on X that the 'Cuse is "heavily involved" with Russell.
Currently, all of the main recruiting services place Russell in the top 50 of his class. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, at the time of this writing, had him in the top 15 overall, the top two at wide receiver and within the top two in Florida.
Recruiting service and media outlet 247Sports is the most bullish on Russell, putting him at No. 5 nationwide, No. 2 at wide receiver and No. 1 in Florida.
Since officially taking over the Orange program in early December of last year, Brown and his staff have continued to focus on traditional recruiting hotbeds along the Northeast corridor, while also recruiting other states hard, including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio and Texas, among others.
Speaking of the Sunshine State, at this juncture, the 'Cuse has secured at least three verbal commitments in its 2026 class, a cycle that was rated No. 4 overall by the 247Sports Composite when I wrote this piece.
Two of those three verbal pledges in 2026 hail from Florida, and they are four-star athlete/defensive back Demetres Samuel Jr. of Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla., and four-star linebacker/edge Izayia Williams of Tavares High School in Tavares, Fla., along with four-star running back D'Antae Sheffey of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Pa.
