Syracuse football is one of numerous schools that have reached out to Miami (Ohio) junior defensive lineman Caiden Woullard, who entered the transfer portal on December 26, according to a media report.

In recent days, 247Sports national writer Chris Hummer wrote a piece about the ton of interest being received by the 6-foot-5, 252-pound Woullard, who hails from Massillion, Ohio.

Woullard has one season of collegiate eligibility left. Since he said via his X page on December 26 that he was entering the portal, Woullard has picked up numerous scholarship offers from schools including Minnesota, Indiana, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

In the recently completed 2023 season, Woullard was stellar as a junior when Mid-American Conference member Miami (Ohio) went 11-3 overall.

Syracuse football has reached out to a four-star edge transfer from Ohio.

This past term, Woullard tallied 19 solo tackles, 22 assisted tackles, 41 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 9.5 sacks, one pass defended and two forced fumbles. He was named to the All-MAC first team.

When I wrote this article, several recruiting services rated Woullard as four stars in the current transfer portal cycle. On a national scale, the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking situated him at No. 54 overall in its national transfer ratings.

According to Hummer’s story, college squads that have reached out to Woullard, beyond the Orange, include LSU, Arizona, Washington, UCLA, Purdue, Iowa State, Houston, Michigan State, Ohio State and Florida.

The 247Sports piece said that Woullard is eyeing a January 3 visit to Oklahoma, and he’s also scheduling a trip to Texas A&M.

Woullard attended Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. He was a three-star linebacker prospect in high school, part of the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Within the Syracuse football 2024 class, including both high school seniors and college transfers, the Orange has commitments from several defensive linemen and edge rushers.

They include four-star Texas A&M junior Fadil Diggs, three-star Maraad Watson of Irvington High School in Irvington, N.J., three-star Jahide Lesaine Jr. of Irvington High School in Irvington, N.J., four-star KingJoseph Edwards of Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Ga., and three-star Caden Brown of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Woullard was fabulous for Miami (Ohio) this past season. He’s got an impressive list of suitors, and I assume that this list will continue to grow.

I’ll be curious to see whether Syracuse football emerges as a viable contender in Woullard’s recruiting process.
