This coming Saturday, 2025 four-star edge and top-150 national prospect CJ May from Alabama is expected to make his college decision, with his final four being Syracuse football, fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Louisville, Washington and Auburn.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound May, who previously gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame, said in a recent post on X that he plans to announce his commitment decision at 1:30 pm on July 13 from his high school, which is Highland Home in Highland Home, Ala.
May took an official visit to the Orange from June 14 to June 16, and based on his social media posts and other reports, that trip to the Hill went quite well.
In fact, immediately following his 'Cuse visit, top 247Sports analyst Mike McAllister said in a post on X that May at the time had the Orange "at the top of the list."
Syracuse football will soon know if it has prevailed for 2025 four-star edge CJ May.
May, who has visited all four of his finalists, has received more than 20 offers throughout his recruitment. The 'Cuse staff, led by head coach Fran Brown, offered a scholarship to May on January 21 of this year.
Last September, he gave a verbal pledge to the Fighting Irish but then in early February of 2024, May de-committed from Notre Dame and reopened his recruitment.
When I reviewed the primary recruiting services on Sunday, Louisville had some analyst buzz for May. The Cardinals, coming off an excellent 2023 season, had a prediction in their direction on the 247Sports Web site from one of the top national analysts in the business, Tom Loy, who had assigned a "medium" confidence level.
Additionally, there was at least one projection in Louisville's favor on Rivals.com. Does this mean that May is definitely going to pick the Cardinals on July 13? Not necessarily, although Louisville seems to be in strong shape with him.
At the time of this writing, within the 2025 cycle, May arrived at No. 145 nationally, No. 16 at edge and No. 12 in Alabama via 247Sports.
The industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking had him at No. 273 overall in the rising senior class, while the industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed May at No. 306 around the country.
On Sunday, Syracuse football had at least 28 verbal pledges in its solid 2025 cycle. If May were to choose the 'Cuse this coming Saturday, I believe that he would become the Orange's highest-ranked verbal commit in this class.
