Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney writes in an article that there are several front-runners so far for 2026 four-star defensive back/wide receiver Ayden Pouncey from Florida, and Syracuse football is one of them.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Pouncey said via his X page that he picked up a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse staff on May 6 of this year.

Despite only being a sophomore in high school, and his recruiting process potentially having a way to go, Pouncey has received more than 20 offers from a range of big-time programs, according to recruiting services.

His full offer sheet also includes schools such as Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, Missouri, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, South Carolina, Texas A&M, UCF, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Duke and USF, among others.

Syracuse football is in a good spot early on for 2026 four-star athlete Ayden Pouncey.

Pouncey is a standout at Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Fla. Per a post on his X page, during the 2023 season as a sophomore at Winter Park, he tallied 700 all-purpose yards and eight total touchdowns. Pouncey had five interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 21 total tackles.

In his article on Monday, Gorney said that to date, some of the front-runners for Pouncey include Georgia, the Orange, UCF and Florida State. The analyst also said that Miami, which offered Pouncey a few days ago, is a college suitor to watch here.

Pouncey is an elite player in the 2026 cycle, as all the primary recruiting services place him in the top 200 nationally.

When I penned this column on Monday, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite had him at No. 137 overall, No. 10 at safety and No. 26 in Florida.

Over at the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, Pouncey checked in at No. 126 nationwide, No. 12 at safety and No. 24 in Florida.

Since Fran Brown officially took over as head coach of Syracuse football in early December of 2023, he and his top-notch staff have certainly centered their recruiting focus on traditional hotbeds such as New Jersey, New York, the Washington, D.C., market, the Philadelphia region, and the rest of the Northeast corridor.

At the same time, the Orange staff, in its recruiting efforts across the 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes, has also put in a lot of work in other states such as Florida, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee and Georgia, among others.

Speaking of the Sunshine State, at the time of this writing, the 'Cuse had three verbal commitments in its 2026 cycle, which was rated No. 3 around the country by the 247Sports Composite.

Two of the team's 2026 verbal pledges, four-star athlete/defensive back Demetres Samuel Jr. and five-star linebacker/edge Izayia Williams, also suit up for Florida high schools.
