Four-star Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, one of the top quarterbacks nationwide currently in the portal, is expected to commit to Syracuse football, as first reported by Brent Axe of Syracuse.com.

Axe’s article is a subscriber-exclusive, so I’m not going to share details here to respect his work. However, he did say in a post on his X page, citing sources, “Ohio State QB Kyle McCord will commit to Syracuse out of the transfer portal. An official announcement could come as soon as Sunday.”

This would obviously prove a massive pick-up by Orange head coach Fran Brown and his staff. I had noted in a piece on Saturday that top national analyst Mike Farrell had forecast that the 6-foot-3, 215-pound McCord would ultimately pledge to the ‘Cuse.

Additionally, there are at least three predictions in the Orange’s direction for McCord on the 247Sports Web site, including a projection from 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Syracuse football could soon get a commitment from 4-star Ohio State QB transfer Kyle McCord.

McCord is a junior with the Big Ten Conference’s Buckeyes who entered the NCAA’s transfer portal on December 4. In the 2023 season at Ohio State, he completed nearly 66 percent of his passes for 3,170 yards, while tallying 24 touchdowns against only six interceptions.

In national transfer rankings, 247Sports has McCord at No. 39 overall and No. 10 at quarterback. Rivals.com places him at No. 14 nationally, while the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking rates him at No. 24 overall.

McCord, this weekend, was one of numerous highly rated transfer targets and 2024 verbal commits who were on the SU campus visiting Syracuse football.

Several days ago, McCord visited another Big Ten school, Nebraska, and there was some speculation that he may commit to the Cornhuskers. However, that didn’t happen, and reports came out stating that he was going to look at other schools, with the ‘Cuse being mentioned as a potential suitor for him.

The Syracuse football coaching staff previously recruited McCord, offering him a scholarship in May of 2018. A standout at the St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, he was a five-star, top-30 overall player in the 2021 class, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

McCord hails from Mount Laurel, N.J. Both Mount Laurel and Philadelphia are near Camden, N.J., which is the hometown of Brown and new Syracuse football defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson.

Since being formally introduced by SU Athletics as the new head coach of the program on December 4, replacing Dino Babers, Brown has secured verbal commitments from several 2024 four-star and three-star prospects.

Besides the presumed upcoming commitment from McCord, the Orange has landed two other players from the transfer portal. They are four-star wide receiver Yazeed Haynes, a freshman at Georgia, and three-star wide receiver Jackson Meeks, who is a junior at Georgia.

Brown, most recently, served as the defensive backs coach at the Bulldogs out of the Southeastern Conference.
