Four-star cornerback Kevyn Humes from Baltimore is set to officially visit Syracuse football this weekend, giving the top-150 national prospect in the 2024 class an opportunity to meet with head coach Fran Brown and his newly assembled staff.
I’m hopeful that the Orange will “wow” the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Humes on his trip to Central New York, because he’s got some other massive campus visits coming up soon.
According to media reports and recruiting services, Humes is scheduled to also officially visit Penn State, Southern California, Notre Dame and Florida in the coming weeks.
Reports also state that Humes’ home-state team, Maryland, could potentially get a visit from him.
On January 1, in a post on his X page, Humes said that his final six contenders are the ‘Cuse, Penn State, USC, Notre Dame, Florida and Maryland.
Syracuse football is in the top six of 2024 4-star CB Kevyn Humes.
Humes, on Christmas Day, said that he would move from the 2025 cycle to the 2024 class. He is a standout at the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore.
Per his bio on the 247Sports Web site, Humes plans to reveal his college decision on February 7, which is the start of the traditional signing period for high school seniors.
Humes holds around 30 scholarship offers, according to Rivals.com. The new Syracuse football coaching staff “re-offered” him on December 4 of last year.
Previously, Humes had a top five of Penn State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oregon and Alabama. Brown, before coming to the Orange, was the defensive backs coach at Georgia.
Humes, not too long ago, said in part to Rivals.com national analyst Adam Friedman, “The first guy that really recruited me hard was Fran Brown. He’s been recruiting me since he was at Rutgers and then he immediately recruited me at Georgia and I believe I was the first high schooler to receive a scholarship from him once he got the job at Syracuse. Knowing coach Fran personally and knowing his mentality, I can tell he’s a dog and he’s going to recruit dogs to his program. That being said, dogs go where dogs go. I just feel like he’s the best recruiter and he’d surround me with great teammates if I were to go there."
When I wrote this article, both of the industry-generated rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking, had Humes in the top 400 overall and in the top 35 at cornerback.
At the time of this writing, Rivals.com was the most bullish on him, placing Humes at No. 139 nationally, No. 19 at cornerback and No. 3 in Maryland within the 2024 cycle.
On Wednesday evening, On3’s recruiting prediction machine pegged Penn State as the leader for Humes, at least for the time being, with Maryland at No. 2 and Syracuse football at No. 3.
Last Saturday, fellow 2024 four-star cornerback Marcellus Barnes Jr. committed to the Orange over Georgia and Ole Miss. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Barnes is a senior at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn.
