Syracuse basketball will host a long-time foe in late December, SU Athletics announced on Monday.
The Orange, coming off a 20-12 mark in the 2023-24 campaign, its first under head coach Adrian Autry, will welcome Patriot League member Bucknell to the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Bucknell, a school located in Lewisburg, Pa., also had a first-year head coach in the 2023-24 season, John Griffin III. Last term, the Bison went 14-19 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
This past March, as the No. 5 seed in the Patriot League's post-season tournament, Bucknell gave No. 1 seed Colgate all it could handle on the road, but the Raiders would squeak out a 68-65 victory.
The all-time series between the 'Cuse and the Bison began during the 1914-15 campaign, per SU Athletics. Syracuse basketball holds a 10-1 record against Bucknell, with the most recent pairing a 97-46 win by the Orange over the Bison on the Hill in November of 2019.
Let's review the Syracuse basketball non-conference calendar to date for next season.
With the news of the 'Cuse battling the Bison, that leaves just one non-conference contest left to be determined for the Orange in its upcoming 2024-25 season, when it will play 11 out-of-conference affairs and 20 encounters in Atlantic Coast Conference competition.
Here's what we know so far, based on press releases from SU Athletics and various media reports:
•Syracuse basketball versus Colgate at the Dome on November 12.
•Syracuse basketball versus Youngstown State at the Dome on November 16.
•Syracuse basketball will have two contests in the 2024 Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on November 21 and November 22. The field of this tourney also includes Texas, Texas Tech, and Saint Joseph's.
•Syracuse basketball versus Cornell at the Dome on November 27.
•Syracuse basketball at Tennessee on December 3 in the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge.
•Syracuse basketball versus Georgetown at the Dome on December 14.
•Syracuse basketball versus Maryland, also at the Barclays Center, on December 21.
•Syracuse basketball versus Bucknell at the Dome on December 28.
•Additionally, CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein has reported that the Orange will face Albany at the Dome, although a date has yet to be disclosed.
Again, that leaves one non-conference game for Syracuse basketball in 2024-25. In late February, the ACC announced the conference's pairings for the upcoming season, and you can view those league opponents for the 'Cuse via an announcement from SU Athletics.
