Syracuse basketball reportedly showing interest in high-scoring 2024 point guard
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball appears to be showing some level of interest in 2024 point guard Brooklyn Vick, according to his bio on the 247Sports Web site.
As far as I can tell, the 6-foot-1 Vick hasn't yet been offered a scholarship by the Orange coaching staff, but 247Sports does indicate that the 'Cuse is displaying an interest in this under-the-radar prospect.
It's unclear to me what scholarship offers Vick may currently possess, because he isn't listed on other recruiting Web sites. But in looking around at other resources, including the MaxPreps Web site, he does seem to be able to score points in droves.
Vick is a standout at the Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Fla.
Syracuse basketball does have several open scholarships available for the next term.
Per MaxPreps, Saint Andrew's went 21-7 overall in the 2023-24 season. The Scots, per the team's Web site, won a district title this past stanza. During the Florida Class 3A state playoffs, Saint Andrew's advanced to a regional semifinal, where the Scots fell to the Westminster Academy from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., by a final count of 69-65.
Westminster's roster, by the way, includes 2026 guard/small forward Alex Constanza, a five-star, top-five national prospect in the sophomore class. The Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-8 Constanza this past January, as I first reported.
According to MaxPreps, in that loss to Westminster, Vick tallied 22 points and four steals. In February, Saint Andrew's defeated the Saint John Paul II Academy from Boca Raton, 78-68, to capture the 3A District 13 crown. Vick, per his team's Web site, collected a season-high 37 points along with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
For the entire 2023-24 campaign, per his bio on the MaxPreps Web site, Vick averaged 19.2 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 3.7 steals per contest, while connecting on 52 percent from the field, 31 percent from beyond the arc, and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
To date, Syracuse basketball has two high school seniors officially signed in its 2024 class. They are five-star power forward Donnie Freeman from Washington, D.C., and four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore from New York City.
Colorado senior center Eddie Lampkin Jr., a four-star transfer, has also committed to the 'Cuse this off-season.
On the flip side, at least five players from the Orange's 2023-24 roster have entered the transfer portal, which opened on Monday, March 18, and will run for 45 days. Those 'Cuse players who have hit the portal include sophomore guards/wings Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland.
Additionally, sophomore point guard Judah Mintz isn't likely to return for another year on the Hill. As such, Syracuse basketball coaches probably will be focused on landing at least another guard or two this off-season, whether through the portal or at the high school level.
I'll of course monitor whether the Orange ends up offering a scholarship to Vick.
