It remains to be seen what Syracuse basketball sophomore point guard Judah Mintz is going to do ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, but he put one notion to rest: He isn't transferring to Georgetown.

Phew.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Mintz, one of the Atlantic Coast Conference's leading scorers during the 2023-24 season, was named to the All-ACC's second team as a sophomore.

Following his freshman term on the Hill, the Fort Washington, Md., native tested the 2023 NBA Draft process, but he ultimately decided to return to Central New York.

It's entirely possible that Mintz will test the 2024 NBA Draft waters, or he could declare for the draft and forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility altogether.

But the stuff floating around social media about him possibly transferring to those pesky Hoyas isn't true, as Mintz put out a post via his X page on Wednesday that read, "The Georgetown rumors" along with a trio of thumbs-down emojis.

Syracuse basketball sophomore point guard Judah Mintz isn't headed to Georgetown.

Personally, I think that Mintz is either going to return to the 'Cuse for his junior season, or he's making his way to the professional ranks. I don't envision him transferring, but I'm also not in Judah's inner circle.

However, you never know in this day and age with the transfer portal's explosion. Already this off-season for the 'Cuse, at least four 2023-24 players have decided to hit the portal, so could Mintz transfer? I guess it's possible.

If Mintz departed the Hill for the portal, I'd wish him well, just like every other Syracuse basketball player who transfers. But please, please - don't ever transfer to former long-time Big East Conference rival Georgetown.

I say this somewhat in jest. Some of my fellow Orange fans give me crap for this, but I actually root for the Hoyas when they're not battling the 'Cuse. I was born at Georgetown University Hospital many moons ago, and I've lived most of my adult life in Washington, D.C.

I hope that head coach Ed Cooley, the former Providence boss, turns the Hoyas around, although Georgetown was not good in Cooley's first year at the helm of the program. In 2023-24, the Hoyas went an abysmal 9-23 overall and just 2-18 in Big East competition.

Mintz, in 2023-24, averaged 18.8 points, 4.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game, while connecting on 43.8 percent from the field, 28.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.

His ability to get into the lane and score in traffic is strong. His proficiency for getting to the free-throw line is undeniable. Mintz must improve his 3-point shooting. He also can be turnover-prone at times, but that's in part due to his assertiveness in driving into the paint.

Do I think that Mintz should return to Central New York for a junior year? Maybe. Maybe not. I assume he'll test the 2024 NBA Draft waters and go from there. One thing I will say is that if he's not projected to get selected in the upcoming draft, which is two rounds, he could make some nice NIL dollars while in a Syracuse basketball uniform.

Either way, Judah Mintz isn't transferring to Georgetown. Orange Nation can breathe a sigh of relief.
