Syracuse Basketball: 5-star Alex Constanza strong term, 'very interested' to visit SU
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball 2026 target Alex Constanza, a five-star standout from Florida, recently won a top honor in the Sunshine State for his stellar sophomore season.
The 6-foot-8 Constanza, a consensus top-15 national prospect who is rated as high as No. 3 nationally by ESPN, averaged more than 20 points per game during the 2023-24 campaign as one of the standouts for the Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The Lions went 23-6 overall this past stanza, reaching the Class 3A regional final of the Florida High School Athletic Association (“FHSAA”) playoffs. MaxPreps, in its final national rankings of high school programs, placed Westminster at No. 65 overall, as well as No. 10 in Florida.
Per MaxPreps, as a sophomore, Constanza averaged 25.2 minutes, 20.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest, while connecting on 57 percent from the field, 51 percent from beyond the arc, and 82 percent from the free-throw line.
That, to me, is an All-American season for Constanza. Per a post on X earlier this month from Westminster, Constanza was named a 2023-24 All-County player of the year by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Syracuse basketball has gotten involved with five-star prospect Alex Constanza early on.
Constanza, who is also a top performer on the AAU circuit with the Miami-based Nightrydas Elite in Nike’s EYBL league, received a scholarship offer from the Orange in mid-January of this year, as I first reported. His lead recruiter at the 'Cuse is assistant coach Allen Griffin.
While Constanza will likely have a way to go in his recruiting process, his dad, Ed Constanza, has told me that his son's offer sheet includes schools such as Rutgers, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, Washington, St. John’s, Florida, Miami, Florida State, Alabama, Dayton, Creighton, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Arizona State, Auburn and Illinois.
Numerous other high-major programs are also showing an interest in Alex Constanza, his dad says, noting in a text message to me this week that Constanza is garnering "serious interest" from Duke.
Constanza is one of at least eight 2026 prospects who have landed scholarship offers from the 'Cuse. Earlier this month, Constanza was also one of several Syracuse basketball four-star and five-star targets who were lauded by national analysts and scouts for their performances at a USA Basketball junior national team minicamp held in Phoenix.
Although Constanza boasts an excellent offer list so far, that list is going to greatly expand in the near future. On June 15 of this year, college coaches can start initiating direct communication with 2026 prospects, and I expect Constanza's offer sheet to balloon.
What's more, 2026 high school players can start taking official visits to college campuses beginning on August 1 of this year. While nothing is yet scheduled, Constanza's dad tells me that his son is "very interested" in visiting Syracuse basketball at some point.
