As Syracuse basketball coaches mine the transfer portal this off-season to fill the holes in their roster ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, keep an eye on Delaware senior forward Jyáre Davis, who was one of the top scorers in his conference during the most recent term.
On March 19, the 6-foot-7, 215-pound Davis entered the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. He will have one year of collegiate eligibility left as a graduate student.
In its national transfer rankings, as of Tuesday evening, Rivals.com placed Davis as four stars and No. 40 around the country this cycle.
The current transfer-portal window opened on Monday, March 18, and it will run for 45 days. To date, the Orange coaching staff has reached out to at least six college transfers, according to national analysts.
Conversely, at least five players from the team's 2023-24 roster have decided to enter the portal, and they are sophomore big man Maliq Brown, sophomore center Peter Carey, sophomore guard/wing Quadir Copeland, sophomore guard/wing Justin Taylor and junior forward Benny Williams, who was dismissed from the program in early February.
Let's see if Syracuse basketball pursues Delaware senior forward Jyáre Davis, a four-star transfer.
Delaware, a member of the Coastal Athletic Association ("CAA"), went 19-14 overall during the 2023-24 stanza. Per ESPN data, as a senior for the Blue Hens, Davis appeared in 32 games. He averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest, while connecting on 46.6 percent from the field, 81.4 percent from the free-throw line but just 25.6 percent from beyond the arc.
According to the CAA's Web site, in 2023-24, Davis finished at No. 7 within this league in points per game as well as No. 6 in rebounds per encounter. He was named to the All-CAA second team.
Davis, who began his collegiate career at Big East Conference school Providence and is from Newark, Del., was a three-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class who starred at the Sanford School in Hockessin, Del.
Per his bio on the Delaware athletics department Web site, Davis helped lead Sanford to two state titles and scored more than 1,700 points in high school. Named to the All-State first team a whopping four times, Davis was the MaxPreps player of the year in Delaware in 2020 and the Gatorade player of the year in that state in 2019.
During his recruiting process while in high school, Davis' offer sheet included college squads such as Bryant, Florida, Miami, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's, Temple, Virginia Tech, Wichita State and DePaul.
