Syracuse Basketball: 4-star Kiyan Anthony drops 40 points at Peach Jam, set to trim list
By Neil Adler
Kiyan Anthony, the Syracuse basketball 2025 priority target, has been on fire in recent days at the annual Peach Jam on Nike's EYBL circuit, and he's preparing to trim down the list of contenders still in the running in his recruiting process.
This spring and summer, the four-star shooting guard from New York City has proven a top performer in the EYBL's main 17U division while shining for the Baltimore-based Team Melo.
Through July 21, Peach Jam is taking place in North Augusta, S.C., with an NCAA live period coming up from July 19 to July 21. It's likely that the Orange staff will be in attendance for Anthony during the evaluation period this weekend.
Team Melo is not part of the 24-team Peach Jam field in the 17U division. Rather, it is suiting up in the Peach Invitational Tournament ("PIT"), and Anthony has been fabulous.
On Monday afternoon, Team Melo defeated the Chicago-based Mac Irvin Fire, 81-51. Per a box score on the EYBL Web site, Anthony tallied an impressive 40 points, two rebounds and one assist. He was 15-of-19 from the field and 5-of-6 from deep.
Team Melo is back in PIT action on Tuesday, and the squad is scheduled to face off against the Oklahoma-based Team Griffin beginning at 4:30 pm EST.
Syracuse basketball remains in hot pursuit of 2025 four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony.
The 6-foot-5 Anthony, a rising senior at the powerhouse Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., who is ranked as high as No. 27 nationally by On3 in the 2025 cycle, has landed more than 20 offers throughout his recruitment.
The Orange staff offered him a scholarship in November of 2022, and Anthony took an official visit to the Hill last October. He has also officially visited fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Florida State.
In an article this week from top writer Sam Lance on zagsblog.com, Anthony said that he's looking to reveal a top five or top six soon, likely "just after Peach Jam." Anthony adds that is eyeing a commitment announcement "before my senior season starts, so October or November," per Lance's piece.
I'd be shocked if the 'Cuse doesn't make Anthony's list cut. In various interviews over the past couple of months, Anthony has said that he wants to visit Syracuse basketball again, and he's also mentioned numerous other suitors that he'd like to visit in the coming months.
Anthony told Lance that some schools he's got in mind for possible visits include Ohio State, Auburn, Southern California and Rutgers. Not too long ago, On3 national reporter Joe Tipton first reported that Anthony plans to visit Southern California, which is now a Big Ten Conference member, at some point.
In other prior media reports, other college squads that have been noted as potential visit destinations for Anthony have included Indiana and Arizona State, among others.
Anthony, in his interview with Lance, had this to say about Syracuse basketball and the Orange staff's pursuit of him. "I just like the atmosphere, you know, obviously my dad went there 20 something years ago, so I just like the atmosphere, I like the family environment. The coaches, I feel like they’re recruiting me for myself, and not just because of my father. That’s what I like. I just feel like they’re rebuilding, and they’re looking to get a winning team. I feel like I can help them do that if I was to go there."
According to the zagsblog.com story, assistant coach Brenden Straughn appears to be the main 'Cuse recruiter for Anthony, although he added that head coach Adrian Autry is "starting to reach out to me on a daily basis and really trying to recruit me. He’s been at all my games so far, so just trying to build that relationship with him."
