Jyáre Davis, a four-star forward who said last month that he would transfer from Delaware to Syracuse basketball, is deemed one of the top transfers heading to the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2024-25 season.

In a recent piece, 247Sports national writer Grant Hughes ranked his 15 best transfers into the ACC for the upcoming campaign.

He's got the 6-foot-7, 215-pound Davis slotted at No. 15, writing in part that Davis, a senior with one year of collegiate eligibility left, "provides the Orange with a versatile, inside-out, scoring threat with a strong frame and physical style to match up against talented ACC frontcourts next season."

When I wrote this article, in its national transfer rankings, 247Sports placed Davis as four stars, No. 134 overall and No. 29 at small forward. Rivals.com, meanwhile, has him as four stars and No. 97 nationally.

The industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, at the time of this writing, rated Davis as four stars, No. 129 nationwide and No. 27 at power forward.

Versatile forward Jyáre Davis will be a key contributor to Syracuse basketball this season.

By the way, in Hughes' ACC transfer rankings, he's got former Syracuse basketball power forward Maliq Brown, who headed to Duke, at No. 5. And former Orange recruiting target Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, a big man who transferred from Louisville to N.C. State, is No. 3.

Okay, back to Jyáre. This off-season, seven players from the 'Cuse 2023-24 roster hit the portal, including Brown and forward Benny Williams.

So the 'Cuse staff landing a commitment from Davis, who can play either forward spot and scores with prowess in the mid-range and near the rim, was huge for the team.

In 2023-24, as a senior for Coastal Athletic Association ("CAA") member Delaware, Davis averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while making 46.6 percent from the field, 81.4 percent from the free-throw line, and 25.6 percent from 3-point land.

Not long after Davis said he would transfer to Syracuse basketball, top national analyst/scout Jamie Shaw of On3 relayed this quick evaluation to me. "Jyáre Davis is a productive and experienced player. He has a strong frame with good length and nice size. Davis had nine games of 20+ points and nine double-doubles this season. He’s scored over 1,300 points in his three seasons playing at Delaware. He is at his best working from the midrange in where he shows nice touch. He knocks down his free throws and he rebounds his position well. He has consistently produced."

This coming season, it remains to be seen whether Davis will be in the Orange's starting rotation, or if he will be a pivotal reserve off the bench. Either way, his athleticism and versatility will earn him major minutes in the 2024-25 line-up of head coach Adrian Autry.
