Five-star point guard Jerry Easter II, who wants to visit Syracuse basketball, is having some kind of junior year suiting up in the country’s premier high school conference.
The 6-foot-4 Easter, who was an All-American as both a freshman and a sophomore at the Emmanuel Christian School in Toledo, Ohio., is competing in the 2023-24 season for the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind., the same powerhouse program where Orange sophomore guard J.J. Starling previously starred.
La Lumiere is a member of the 14-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic (“EYBL Scholastic”), arguably the best conference in high school hoops.
Facing off against some of the top squads and top high school prospects nationwide, Easter so far in 2023-24 has been sensational.
Upon last glance, within EYBL Scholastic games, Easter was in the top five in points per game, the top 10 in steals per contest, the top 20 in field-goal shooting percentage, and the top-10 in free-throw shooting percentage.
Syracuse basketball recruit Jerry Easter II is a top-25 national prospect.
This past Sunday afternoon, La Lumiere hosted St. Francis High School from Wheaton, Ill.
La Lumiere defeated the Spartans, 88-68, and all Easter did for the Lakers was drop 37 points to go along with seven assists and seven rebounds, according to a post on X from the account League Ready.
The Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to Easter in July of 2022. He’s a highly coveted prospect, having amassed nearly 40 offers from a range of high-major programs, according to his bio on the 247Sports Web site.
As I noted last month, Easter has an interest in taking an official visit to the ‘Cuse soon. He has spoken highly of the Syracuse basketball program in interviews; his dad is dear friends with Orange legend Derrick Coleman, and Easter is good friends with ‘Cuse 2025 priority target Kiyan Anthony, a four-star shooting guard.
Last month, Easter earned a lot of praise from national analysts and scouts for his play at the loaded Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., getting named to the annual event’s All-Showcase first team.
So far in 2023-24, La Lumiere is deemed by multiple media outlets and recruiting services as a top-10 national group, and it’s possible that the Lakers can make a run at earning an invite to this spring’s GEICO Nationals.
Last spring and summer on the AAU circuit, Easter performed quite well while playing up a division for the 17U team of the Columbus, Ohio-based All Ohio Red in Nike’s EYBL league.
In early February, he said via his X page that he will suit up in his final season of grassroots basketball this coming spring and summer for one of the best AAU programs out there, the Philadelphia-based Team Final in the EYBL league.
Numerous recruiting services rank Easter in the top 25 overall, the top six at point guard/combo guard and the top three in Indiana within the 2025 cycle.
At the time of this writing, Easter had moved to five stars, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
