Fast-rising Syracuse basketball big-man target poised for top 100 as offer list grows

New York City product Asher Elson, a fast-rising big man in the 2025 class who holds a Syracuse basketball offer, is catching more and more attention from college programs, national analysts, scouts, and top writers.
For now, the 6-foot-10 power forward/center is rated as three stars, although he did recently move into the top 150 of the 2025 cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
Elson, who was offered by the Orange staff in mid-April, just picked up a relatively new scholarship offer from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Georgia Tech, per his X page. Trust me, more high-major offers, beyond the 'Cuse and the Yellow Jackets, are in store for him.
And top experts, lately, have echoed that sentiment. My guy Brian Reichert, who extensively covers high school hoops and recruiting throughout New York City and the Empire State for NYCHoops.net and Rivals.com, recently published an insight piece on Elson. I'd recommend carving out some time for it.
Around the time that Syracuse basketball offered Elson, Reichert shared some thoughts with me on this Orange recruiting target, noting that Elson should move to four stars sooner rather than later, and that he boasts "one of the best ceilings in 2025."
Syracuse basketball recruit Asher Elson is a hot prospect in the rising high school senior cycle.
Elson is a standout with South Shore High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. On the AAU circuit this spring and summer, he is playing quite well so far for the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based New York Gauchos in the Adidas 3SSB league, earning recent praise from Reichert, 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi, 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein and other recruiting experts.
Beyond the Orange and Georgia Tech, Elson's growing offer sheet includes schools such as Creighton, Illinois, St. John's, Temple, UAB and Fordham. As Reichert mentioned in his recent story, "Elson should continue to gain suitors as the rest of the Power 5 programs get to see him."
While the 'Cuse staff only recently offered him, I could envision Elson emerging as a priority target for Syracuse basketball in the 2025 class. Let's see if he ends up taking a visit to the Hill in the coming months.
South Shore is a member of New York City's Public Schools Athletic League ("PSAL"). Over the course of this past season, Reichert writes that Elson evolved into "one of the best scorers and prospects in the PSAL," and in the 2024-25 campaign, "he will easily be one of our favorites for PSAL Player of the year."
Currently, the 247Sports Composite places Elson as three stars, No. 149 overall, No. 30 at power forward and No. 7 in New York within the 2025 cycle. Yet as the top NYC hoops expert Reichert says, "we’re confident he is a top 100 player in the class of 2025. His blend of athleticism, shooting, size, wingspan, potential, IQ and shot creation are exactly what you want in a high-major prospect."
