New York City product Asher Elson, a fast-rising 2025 three-star big man recently offered by Syracuse basketball, has done some stellar things so far in the early stages of the AAU circuit this spring and summer.

The Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-10 power forward/center in mid-April, he said via his X page.

Elson appears to be somewhat of a late bloomer in the high school junior cycle, but several NYC hoops experts have told me lately that he is poised to garner four-star, and possibly even five-star, status when all is said and done.

Elson is a standout with South Shore High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. On the AAU circuit this spring and summer, he is playing quite well to date for the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based New York Gauchos in the Adidas 3SSB league.

As a result, Elson has caught the eye of various national analysts and scouts, and I can certainly understand why Orange coaches have offered him a scholarship.

New Syracuse basketball 2025 target Asher Elson, a promising big, is impressing on the AAU circuit.

According to the Adidas 3SSB Web site, this AAU league has held two sessions so far, the first one in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and the second in Hoover, Ala.

As the New York Gauchos have sported a 7-2 overall mark, Elson is averaging 10.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 21.4 minutes per contest. Scoring-wise, between these two sessions, he has produced games of 20, 19, 17, 15 and 10 points in five of those affairs.

Following the most recent session, from May 3 to May 5 in Alabama, the experts at The Circuit named Elson to their All-Breakout team.

Amid the first Adidas 3SSB session in Iowa, 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi wrote in part that "Elson has a very thin frame and is going to have to get much stronger, but on the other hand he brings a lot to the table. He's a skilled scorer and fluid mover who can shoot from deep (he hit three from behind the three-point line) and also do some creating off the dribble. He had 20 points and four rebounds in a win ..."

During the second session in Alabama, 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein agreed that Elson will need to add strength to fill out his frame, but Finkelstein also wrote that he "just oozes with long-term upside."

Beyond the Orange, per his X page and recruiting Web sites, Elson's offer sheet includes schools such as Creighton, Illinois, St. John's, Temple, UAB and Fordham. Assuming he continues to fare well in grassroots basketball, I'd expect more high-major offers to start arriving sooner rather than later.

When I wrote this article, On3 rated Elson as three stars, No. 144 overall, No. 32 at power forward and No. 7 in New York within the 2025 cycle.

However, not too long ago, Brian Reichert, who extensively covers high school hoops and recruiting throughout New York City and the Empire State for NYCHoops.net and Rivals.com, told me that Elson possesses "one of the best ceilings in 2025."

Reichert says he believes Elson will evolve into a four-star, top-100 national prospect in his class, and he could even make a run at five-star status. He's that promising of a prospect, Reichert says.

Recently, Syracuse basketball coaches have offered scholarships to several 2025 players, including Elson, and I could envision him emerging as a priority recruit for the 'Cuse in this cycle. Let's see if he ultimately decides to take a visit to the Hill at some point in the future.

For now, I'm excited to continue tracking his performances in AAU. The Adidas 3SSB league, by the way, will hold a third session from May 17 to May 19 in Bryan, Texas. This circuit's season-ending playoffs are scheduled for July 9 to July 14 in Rock Hill, S.C.
