Encouraging sign as Syracuse basketball named a finalist for 4-star wing Ryder Frost
By Neil Adler
Ryder Frost, who has seen his recruitment blow up amid an impressive spring and summer on the AAU circuit, has dropped a top eight that includes Syracuse basketball.
This is an encouraging development for the Orange, although I'm not too surprised by the 'Cuse making this list cut for the 2025 four-star wing and top-100 national prospect in the rising high school senior class.
In late May, the Orange staff offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-6 Frost. The next month, in late June, he took an official visit to the Hill. In various recent interviews, Frost has spoken positively of Syracuse basketball and said his official visit to the program went well.
Per a social media post from recruiting insider Sam Kayser, who runs the X account 24/7 High School Hoops, Frost's top eight features the 'Cuse, Penn State, Michigan, BYU, Notre Dame, Iowa, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
In his post on X, Kayser said that "Frost is an athletic wing who can knock down shots from all over the floor. A good positional rebounder who can guard on the defensive end."
For what it's worth, when I wrote this column on Sunday evening, On3's recruiting prediction machine had the Orange slightly in the lead for Frost, followed closely by Penn State, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Syracuse basketball remains in contention for 2025 four-star wing Ryder Frost.
Frost is a rising senior at the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. This spring and summer in grassroots basketball, he earned a ton of high praise from national analysts and scouts for his performances for the 17U team of the Boston-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour Association league.
Per a post on X from earlier this month by the Middlesex Magic, Frost has landed more than 30 scholarship offers throughout his recruitment, and a bunch of them have arrived since the late spring as he balled out in recent months on the Under Armour Association circuit.
Frost is one of numerous priority targets for the Orange staff in the 2025 class. In late May, five-star forward and top-20 national prospect Sadiq White Jr. verbally pledged to the 'Cuse, giving Syracuse basketball its first commitment in this cycle.
Recently, the Orange made the top six of 2025 four-star recruits Kiyan Anthony, London Jemison and Derek Dixon, all of whom have taken official visits to the 'Cuse.
Also not too long ago, 2025 four-star guard Acaden Lewis put Syracuse basketball in his top eight. He unofficially visited the Orange on August 1.
Looking ahead a bit, 2025 four-star wing/small forward Shon Abaev has scheduled an official visit to Syracuse basketball from August 30 to August 31.
