Devin Cleveland, a four-star guard from Chicago, is one of several 2027 prospects whom the Syracuse basketball staff is pushing hard for these days within the high school senior class.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Cleveland has a top seven of Alabama, Arkansas, Marquette, Michigan, Missouri, Syracuse and TCU. A top-40 national prospect in the 2027 cycle, Cleveland has said that he plans to take official visits to all his finalists before making a college decision, which could come toward the end of the year, or even in early January, according to recent interviews that he's conducted with recruiting analysts.
While it doesn't appear that there's a heavy favorite right now in Cleveland's recruitment, rumors are swirling that one suitor, in particular, may be positioning itself well to potentially land the talented guard.
That would be Missouri out of the Southeastern Conference. Currently, the Tigers lead for Cleveland, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, although that could change as he schedules more official visits.
Several national observers have suggested recently that Missouri is in good shape with Cleveland. It's worth noting that both Cleveland and Tigers head coach Dennis Gates are both from Chicago.
Syracuse basketball is hoping to get 2027 4-star guard Devin Cleveland on campus at some point.
Cleveland's official visit schedule should provide more clarity on his recruiting process, analysts say. He has an official visit set to Missouri on October 3, per Rivals. Previously, Cleveland has gone on unofficial visits to Marquette and Michigan.
The new Orange staff under Gerry McNamara offered a scholarship to Cleveland last month. He is heading into his senior season at the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind., which is part of the 15-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").
On the AAU circuits this past spring and into the summer, Cleveland was a standout with the 17U team of the St. Louis-based Bradley Beal Elite. While Missouri might be gaining momentum in Cleveland's recruitment, Inside the Loud House will be keeping tabs on which schools he ultimately visits.
I'll say this: The Orange staff will need to get Cleveland on the Hill for an official visit at some point if Syracuse basketball wants to have a realistic chance at prevailing for the top-10 shooting guard/combo guard in the senior cycle.
