This weekend on the shoe-sponsored AAU circuits, the Syracuse basketball staff has watched numerous four-star and five-star prospects. One of them, according to analysts, is 2026 five-star combo guard Brandon McCoy, who was an All-American last season as a junior.
We'll have to see if the Orange ends up offering a scholarship to the 6-foot-4, 185-pound McCoy, who is ranked No. 2 nationally in his class by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3/Rivals Industry Ranking. McCoy does play alongside other Orange recruiting targets both in high school and on the AAU circuit.
Not too long ago, McCoy helped the USA win the gold medal at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland. Another member of Team USA was Syracuse basketball 2026 five-star priority recruit Jordan Smith Jr., an All-American at St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly, Va.
McCoy holds roughly 20 offers from heavyweight programs such as Duke, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon and Tennessee, among many others.
Syracuse basketball might be showing an interest in 5-star guard Brandon McCoy.
McCoy is a rising senior at the powerhouse St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif. His teammate there, 2026 five-star forward Christian Collins, picked up a scholarship offer from the Orange staff a few days ago.
The 6-foot-8 Collins, ranked No. 2 nationwide by ESPN, suits up for the 17U squad of the Los Angeles-based Team Why Not in Nike's EYBL league. The 'Cuse was in attendance for him as well this weekend amid the live period.
In grassroots hoops, McCoy has been playing for the 17U team of the Phoenix-based Arizona Unity on the EYBL circuit. Arizona Unity's 17U roster includes several other players who hold scholarship offers from Syracuse basketball.
For Arizona Unity this weekend, McCoy has averaged 17.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 blocks per game while making 50 percent from the field.
In the 2024-25 season, McCoy averaged 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 3.6 assists per contest while connecting on 54 percent from the field. Despite missing a dozen games due to an injury, MaxPreps gave McCoy an honorable mention nod to its junior All-America teams.
Like many of its peers, Syracuse basketball is looking for its first commitment in the 2026 cycle. I went in-depth earlier on Sunday about which rising high school seniors may be the Orange's top targets in this class.
