Trebor Peña is officially in the portal amid an NIL disagreement and head coach Fran Brown standing strong in his stance to not give the star wideout the money he asked for. Now, the Orange's No. 2 wide receiver from last season is being looked at by one of Syracuse's rivals, a nightmare scenario for his former program.

The Miami Hurricanes, in need of rebuilding their program after a few key offensive players left for the NFL Draft, have been looking at Peña ever since the rumors of him hitting the transfer portal began.

With newly transferred quarterback Carson Beck (from the Georgia Bulldogs) holding the reins of the Miami offense, a wideout like Peña could be exactly what the Hurricanes need to finish off a defense that is looking more and more threatening as the offseason unfolds.

Trebor Peña 2024-25 season stats

  • 84 receptions
  • 941 receiving yards
  • 9 receiving touchdowns
  • 12 carries
  • 72 rushing yards
  • 1 rushing touchdown

During the 2024 season, Peña only trailed WR1 Jackson Meeks in receiving yards. With Meeks declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, all signs were pointing to Peña to fill his shoes. However, as the wideout worked to negotiate a newly-structured NIL deal for roughly $2 million, Brown was not hearing it.

Yet, the Hurricanes, who have a substantial NIL fund of their own, the Canes Connection, appear more than ready to cough up the money that Peña is requesting. For reference, Miami signed a $4 million NIL deal to bring Beck into the Hurricanes' program.

Nothing is official, and it has yet to be publicly announced who Peña is talking to, but it would certainly be a nightmare if the Orange had to face its former wide receiver in conference play next season.
