When Syracuse football standout Steve Angeli went down in the second half against Clemson, the worry was that the stud quarterback suffered a serious injury. Unfortunately, it was just confirmed that due to an Achilles injury, the Notre Dame transfer indeed won't be back on the field in 2025.

According to insider Matt Zenitz, Angeli indeed will be out for the rest of the season. Before going down against Clemson in the 34-21 win for the Orange, Angeli was playing sharp and things were looking great for Syracuse as a whole. Now, however, everything is going to change for the ACC side moving forward:

Syracuse QB Steve Angeli is reportedly out for the rest of the season with an Achilles injury

This past offseason, Angeli said goodbye to South Bend and hello to Syracuse. He won the starting job and he was looking strong to start the new campaign. In his four games in '25, the veteran QB had tossed for 1,316 yards and 10 TDs, while adding another one on the ground.

With Angeli now lost for the rest of the year, the offense will be turned over to LSU transfer Rickie Collins. After taking over on Saturday against Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, Collins went 3-of-8 for 34 yards and a touchdown.

After the final whistle, Collins was asked about his mindset entering the game and he didn't hesitate in saying that he felt terrible for Angeli. Despite that, he quickly had to shift his focus and help the Orange close out the game against the Tigers.

Syracuse left the stadium with a 3-1 record, but it also lost its QB1 for the rest of the season. The loss of Angeli is going to sting for quite some time and Fran Brown and his staff are obviously going to have to mix things up now that Collins is the new man in charge. On a human level, it's easy to feel bad for Angeli and the latest adversity he's facing.
