On Tuesday, numerous national analysts forecast that Syracuse football would ultimately score a commitment from Notre Dame transfer quarterback Steve Angeli.

Top On3 expert Steve Wiltfong reported via X that the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Angeli took a visit to the Orange on Monday. In the 2024 season, Angeli was a junior with the Fighting Irish, which reached the championship game of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Angeli, who hails from New Jersey, much like numerous Syracuse football coaches, including head coach Fran Brown, and current 'Cuse players, checks in as three stars in national transfer rankings from several recruiting Web sites, as well as in the top 300 overall and in the top 25 at quarterback.

When I wrote this article on Tuesday in the late afternoon, at least five analysts between the 247Sports Web site and the On3 Web site had logged predictions in the Orange's direction for Angeli.

Fun things.

Syracuse football appears to be in strong shape with Notre Dame transfer quarterback Steve Angeli.

In 2024, per ESPN statistics, Angeli completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 268 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Fighting Irish went 14-2 overall, was ranked No. 2 in the country and fell to Ohio State in the CFP title contest.

As a prep recruit in the 2022 class, Angeli was rated as four stars, No. 365 nationally, No. 21 at quarterback and No. 4 in New Jersey by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

He attended Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J., where his head coach there was Vito Campanile. Campanile is the brother of Nunzio Campanile, the Orange's offensive associate head coach/quarterbacks coach.

Looking ahead at the 'Cuse 2025 season, not too long ago, Brown named rising redshirt sophomore Rickie Collins, a three-star transfer from LSU, as the program's starting quarterback for the upcoming campaign.

Earlier this month, amid the spring transfer portal window opening on April 16 and running through April 25, Orange redshirt senior quarterback Michael Johnson Jr. said he would enter the portal. Other signal-callers on the 'Cuse 2025 roster are rising redshirt freshman Jakhari Williams as well as true freshmen Luke Carney from the Dallas area and Rich Belin from New York City.

If Angeli does end up pledging to Syracuse football, might we have a battle for the No. 1 quarterback spot in 2025, even though Collins was previously named the team's starter? We'll have to wait and see.
