Syracuse football has its starting quarterback for the 2025 season, and its presumed No. 2 signal-caller.
But we've got some other quarterback-related news to share here.
In a post on X, Bryce Koon of 247Sports reported that three-star transfer quarterback Zach Gibson was set to visit the Orange program on Sunday and Monday. During the 2024 season, the 6-foot-2, 201-pound Gibson suited up as a redshirt senior for Sun Belt Conference school Georgia State, which went 3-9 overall.

In 2024, per ESPN statistics, Gibson completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 1,004 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 53 yards and one score on the ground.
The native of Alpharetta, Ga., before heading to Georgia State, played for both Atlantic Coast Conference member Georgia Tech and Akron out of the Mid-American Conference.
A Syracuse football veteran QB is leaving.
On Monday morning, via his X page, Orange redshirt senior quarterback Michael Johnson Jr. announced that he planned to enter the portal. I'm wishing Michael nothing but amazing success moving forward.
Grateful for my time at Syracuse! Appreciate all my coaches and teammates for making this past year so enjoyable. I wish everybody nothing but the best! With that being said I will be entering the Transfer Portal for my final year of eligibility! pic.twitter.com/KcLxApKOaa

The spring transfer portal window, by the way, will officially run from April 16 to April 25. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound Johnson, the son of Syracuse football co-offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Michael Johnson, was seemingly vying for the No. 2 quarterback spot on the 'Cuse 2025 roster.
Head coach Fran Brown, not too long ago, said that three-star LSU transfer Rickie Collins, who will be a redshirt sophomore, will serve as the team's starting signal-caller in 2025. Amid the program's annual spring game this past Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome, media reports indicated that Jakhari Williams, a rising redshirt freshman, is expected to be Collins' primary backup.
As such, I'm not entirely surprised that Michael Johnson Jr. has decided to enter the transfer portal. Other quarterbacks on the Syracuse football 2025 roster include true freshmen Luke Carney from the Dallas area and Rich Belin from New York City, who were both three-star prospects in this recruiting cycle.
I find it intriguing that Gibson is reportedly on the Hill visiting the 'Cuse. What pitch is the Orange staff giving him? To come in and serve as the No. 3 quarterback or perhaps battle Williams for the backup role? Might any other current Orange quarterbacks decide to depart the program as well?
Only time will tell.
