Syracuse basketball, led by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, is taking a look at one of the top guards in the 2028 class.

Per a recent post on X from MADE Hoops scouting analyst Trent Watson, the Orange is among numerous college programs that have reached out to 2028 five-star point guard Malik Moore since the contact period opened on June 15 for his class.

Other schools that the 6-foot-3 Moore has heard from, according to Watson, include Providence, Auburn, Notre Dame, Penn State, Seton Hall, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma, among others.

On June 15, college coaches could begin initiating direct communication with 2028 prospects, who are heading into their junior years in high school. In recent weeks, the new Orange staff has made offers to, and shown an interest in, numerous 2028 players.

Within his cycle, Moore is the No. 20 overall prospect, the No. 1 point guard and the No. 1 player hailing from New Jersey, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Syracuse basketball has an interest in 2028 5-star PG Malik Moore.

Moore is a standout at Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains, N.J., which is located about 30 miles from New York City. In the 2025-26 campaign, he averaged 18.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game and was named to the MaxPreps sophomore All-America third team.

According to recruiting services, Moore's early scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Penn State, Providence, East Carolina, Creighton, Hampton, Manhattan and San Diego. Undeniably, his offer list will significantly grow soon, now that college coaches can call and text him directly. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Orange offers a scholarship to Moore.

This spring and summer on the AAU circuits, he is competing for the 16U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike’s EYBL league. Over the years, the 'Cuse has recruited many players who have suited up for the PSA Cardinals.

In the current AAU season, according to the EYBL's Web site, Moore is averaging 7.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while connecting on 36.1 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from beyond the arc and 65.0 percent from the free-throw line.
