Former Syracuse football star quarterback Kyle McCord is headed to a new NFL team after an impressive preseason.
ESPN's Adam Schefter, citing sources, reports on Sunday that the Green Bay Packers are trading McCord to the Miami Dolphins for a 2028 sixth-round pick.
The 6-foot-3, 218-pound McCord spent his rookie NFL year in 2025 with the Philadelphia Eagles on the team's practice squad. In January, after his practice squad contract expired, he signed with Green Bay, and McCord has played well in preseason games.

At Miami, it appears that McCord will be the primary backup behind starter Malik Willis, who played at Auburn and Liberty in college and was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Willis had played for the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay before signing a three-year deal reportedly worth $67.5 million with the Dolphins this past March.

NFL teams have to reduce their rosters to 53 players by Sunday at 6:00 pm EST, so we'll see a lot of activity today. On Saturday, Miami traded backup quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick.
According to nfl.com, two other Dolphins quarterbacks, Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski, are reportedly being waived. That puts McCord in line to be the No. 2 signal-caller for Miami at the start of the 2026-27 season, unless other developments occur.
The Dolphins went 7-10 last season and have an 0-3 mark in the preseason ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, which begins for Miami on Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Las Vegas Raiders.
Here are some interesting nuggets from Mike Masala of the Dolphins Wire: "Miami should have great intel on McCord, given that general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley both came from Green Bay this offseason and still have plenty of connections there. Miami's passing game coordinator, Kevin Patullo, also served as McCord's offensive coordinator in Philadelphia last year."
McCord, this past Friday evening, had a terrific outing in leading Green Bay to a comeback win at home over the Arizona Cardinals, 42-38. He completed 22-of-35 pass attempts for 226 yards and four scores through the air. For the entire preseason, McCord is 34-of-54 for 344 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
After transferring to Syracuse from Ohio State for his senior year in 2024, the first season with Fran Brown as the Orange's head coach, McCord set numerous SU and Atlantic Coast Conference records as he led the country in total passing yards and helped guide the 'Cuse to a 10-3 record, a No. 20 national ranking in the final Associated Press top 25 and a bowl-game victory.
