Former Syracuse basketball 2026 five-star recruit Dylan Mingo has de-committed from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school North Carolina, according to multiple reports on Monday night.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Mingo received a scholarship offer from the former Orange staff in June of 2025, although the 'Cuse never emerged as a significant player for him.
However, with Gerry McNamara named as SU's head coach last month, perhaps he and the new Orange assistant coaching staff will make a run at Mingo, who is the No. 2 national prospect and the No. 1 point guard in the 2026 class, according to Rivals.
It's important to note that Mingo's older brother is Penn State freshman guard Kayden Mingo, who is in the transfer portal. Not too long ago, SU Athletics announced that Nittany Lions associate head coach Jamal Brunt has joined Syracuse basketball as an assistant.
Let's see if Syracuse basketball pursues 2026 five-star point guard Dylan Mingo.
Dylan Mingo will have a lot of suitors. He attends Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., the same program that Orange freshman guard Kiyan Anthony played for before joining the 'Cuse. Anthony is returning to SU for his sophomore season.
Now, there are a couple of things to mention. For one, is there mutual interest among Mingo and Syracuse basketball coaches? Additionally, SU's 2026-27 roster does include a handful of guards, including several recently committed college transfers.
On Monday, four-star transfer guard Aiden Tobiason, a sophomore at American Conference member Temple, committed to the Orange. Two days earlier, on Saturday, Syracuse basketball landed a pledge from four-star transfer guard Garwey Dual, who is a junior at Southland Conference member McNeese State.
Siena sophomore guard Gavin Doty, a four-star transfer prospect, is also committed to the 'Cuse. None of these players, though, are point guards; they're more like combo guards and/or shooting guards. From that perspective, the Orange could use a pure PG on its 2026-27 roster.
SU's transfer portal class is currently No. 13 nationally on the 247Sports Web site, which is an encouraging sign for McNamara and his assistants. The portal will remain open until April 21.
I'll certainly monitor whether there are any reports indicating that Syracuse basketball is showing an interest in Dylan Mingo. He's the goods.
