Syracuse basketball head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff are building out a strong-looking group of guards amid the transfer portal opening on April 7 and running through April 21.

The latest development is that, on Monday, word broke regarding four-star transfer guard Aiden Tobiason, a sophomore at American Conference member Temple. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Tobiason, who visited SU this past weekend, has committed to the Orange, he announced on his Instagram page.

A huge congrats and welcome from 'Cuse Nation to Aiden! The rumor mill was churning over the past day or two that Tobiason would likely pledge to Syracuse basketball, so his decision to head to the Hill isn't a big surprise.

Tobiason has great size and length for a guard, and he can score in droves. He will pair up well with another four-star transfer guard, Garwey Dual, who is a junior at Southland Conference member McNeese State. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Dual is known for his excellent defensive instincts.

Tobiason, in the 2025-26 season, averaged 35.3 minutes, 15.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while making 48.0 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Here is the latest on Syracuse basketball's 2026-27 roster.

The Orange has two returnees from 2025-26. They are freshman guard Kiyan Anthony and freshman forward Sadiq White Jr. Freshman wing Calvin Russell III, a two-sport star who is also a wide receiver for Syracuse football, says he will be back with SU hoops.

The 'Cuse has one 2026 prep commit in Slovenian wing Mark Morano Mahmutovic. To date, Syracuse basketball has landed four transfers. They are Tobiason, Dual, Siena sophomore guard Gavin Doty and Siena junior big man Tasman Goodrick.

If you also include sophomore guard Noah Lobdell, the SU 2026-27 roster now includes nine players, with up to six scholarships left. On Monday afternoon, via the 247Sports Web site, Syracuse basketball had the No. 9 overall transfer portal class, which is awesome.

In national transfer rankings, Tobiason, Dual and Doty are all ranked as four-star prospects. Mahmutovic is also a four-star player within the 2026 high school class.

On paper, the Orange's back-court is coming together well. With the team's remaining scholarships, McNamara and his assistants will focus on a starting center, other big men and perhaps 3-point specialists out on the wing.
