South Florida head coach Bryan Hodgson is reportedly a candidate for the Syracuse basketball and Providence vacancies, among perhaps other schools.
On Saturday afternoon, amid Florida and Vanderbilt playing a Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinal game, ESPN analyst Jimmy Dykes touched on Hodgson likely being a hot commodity in the upcoming offseason's head coaching carousel.
Dykes noted that Hodgson is in play to replace Adrian Autry as the Orange's next head coach, and Hodgson is also under consideration to replace Kim English at Big East Conference member Providence; his firing was announced on March 13.

Dykes said that Hodgson heading to either Syracuse basketball or Providence "would be a tremendous hire in that part of the country."
An ESPN analyst is high on Bryan Hodgson to potentially lead Syracuse basketball.
Hodgson is a Western New York native. Originally from Olean, N.Y., which is about 75 miles from Buffalo, Hodgson, when he was younger, worked at basketball camps over the summer at schools including Syracuse.
I'm told by sources that Hodgson is absolutely interested in the Syracuse basketball head coaching job. Certainly, financial considerations (i.e., direct revenue-sharing and third-party NIL funds) could be a factor in Hodgson considering the Orange opening.
It also depends on whether South Florida attempts to throw more money at Hodgson to retain him, and other head coaching vacancies for which he may receive interest beyond SU. Before joining USF, Hodgson went 45-28 over two seasons as the head coach at Sun Belt Conference member Arkansas State.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Hodgson was an assistant coach (and excellent recruiter) under head coach Nate Oats, first at Buffalo and then at Southeastern Conference powerhouse Alabama.
Yes, Hodgson only has three campaigns as a college head coach under his belt, so it's not like he's a super-seasoned head coach. However, being mentored by Oats for numerous terms is a highly enticing quality that Hodgson boasts, and he's fared well to date as a head coach (South Florida was 23-8 overall heading into its American Conference Tournament contest on Saturday afternoon).
Whether Hodgson stays at South Florida, goes to Syracuse, goes to the Friars or ends up somewhere else, whichever program will have him running their team in the 2026-27 season is getting a rising star in the coaching ranks.
