Eric Devendorf is back with Boeheim's Army, and I'm loving it like nobody's business.
Hall of Fame writer Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com reported on Thursday that Devendorf, a former star guard at Syracuse basketball, will serve as an assistant coach this summer for Boeheim's Army as the team eyes a deep run in the 2025 The Basketball Tournament ("TBT"), the $1 million, winner-take-all annual event.
Heck yeah.
Devendorf, who I admire so much for what he does in the community through his foundation, is currently a college basketball analyst with the ACC Network and ESPN. He is arguably Boeheim's Army's best player over the years, as the team won the TBT back in 2021 and holds an all-time record in the growing tournament of 25-8.

Shaun Belbey, the Boeheim's Army general manager, told Ditota that Devendorf "brings that competitive edge that we’re gonna need and we’re happy to have him on the sidelines this year as an assistant coach. He’s gonna be rallying in the guys, getting guys ready and we’re really excited to have him."
I'll never forget that ridiculous six-overtime game between Syracuse basketball and Connecticut in the 2009 Big East Conference Tournament, in which Devendorf played a key role in helping the Orange beat the Huskies, 127-117.
Boeheim's Army is gearing up for its first battle in the 2025 TBT.
There is a lot of Syracuse basketball flavor to this summer's Boeheim's Army. Orange assistant Allen Griffin is the head coach of Boeheim's Army, while the Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim is serving as head coach emeritus, a role where he has assisted with roster construction and is expected to attend practices.
Additionally, businessman and philanthropist Adam Weitsman returns as the Boeheim's Army chairman, the same position that he held in 2021 when the team won that cool $1 million.
On Wednesday, the Boeheim's Army 2025 roster grew to 10 players with the addition of former national player of the year Frank Mason III, a point guard who was a consensus first-team All-American at Kansas during the 2016-17 season.
Other Boeheim's Army players are point guard Jacob Gilyard from Richmond, power forward Nick Perkins from Buffalo and center Noah Starkey from Southern Nazarene, along with six former Syracuse basketball standouts: shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, forward Jimmy Boeheim, center Rakeem Christmas, big man Chris McCullough, shooting guard Malachi Richardson and wing Elijah Hughes.
"I think we’ve got a pretty active frontcourt – can move, is versatile," Devendorf said in the Syracuse.com article. "We’ve got enough scorers in the backcourt. And then some guys that can get in there, just mix it up and kinda do the stuff that doesn’t show up on the box score."
Boeheim's Army is the No. 1 seed in the Syracuse regional, a site with games taking place from July 19 to July 23 at the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College. Up first, Boeheim's Army will go toe to toe with No. 8 seed Herkimer Originals on Saturday, July 19, beginning at 6:00 pm EST and airing on FS1.
