Last weekend, 2025 five-star edge Javion Hilson from the Sunshine State took an official visit to Syracuse football, and he was at the JMA Wireless Dome this past Saturday afternoon as the Orange stormed back to defeat Virginia Tech by seven points in overtime.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Hilson tells Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney, "It was a great experience to be back at Syracuse." Hilson also made a trip to Central New York this past April to check out the Orange's annual spring game.
According to Gorney, Hilson currently has a top four of Syracuse football, Texas, Texas A&M and Pittsburgh. Per recruiting services, Hilson plans to make his commitment announcement on December 4.
Hilson is one of the top prospects around the country in the senior cycle. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking place him in the top 50 overall. Over at Rivals.com, within the 2025 class, Hilson is No. 16 nationally, No. 2 in Florida and No. 1 at edge.
Syracuse football is a significant contender for 2025 five-star edge Javion Hilson.
Hilson, a senior at Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., had this to say about his official visit to the 'Cuse in the Rivals.com article. "The fans were crazy in the Dome. It was a great competitive match in overtime. Defensive line was getting after the QB, had a whole bunch of sacks and I love the way they use the defensive ends. ... I can visualize myself in their defense making plays."
Texas has had some analyst buzz for Hilson on the On3 Web site. He took a trip to the Longhorns earlier this fall and plans to visit both Texas A&M and Pittsburgh later in November, Gorney notes.
The Orange staff, led by first-year head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, offered a scholarship to Hilson in January of this year. That same month, Hilson flipped his verbal commitment from Alabama to Florida State.
However, in early September, Hilson said via his X page that he de-committing from Florida State and reopening his recruitment.
Syracuse football coaches, with their recruiting efforts across several cycles, have made Florida a priority focus. In late September, for one, 2025 four-star athlete/defensive backย Demetres Samuel Jr.ย of Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla., flipped his verbal pledge back to Syracuse football from Southeastern Conference team Florida.
Samuel, in recent days, had a fun post on his X page stemming from Hilson's recent official visit to the 'Cuse.
