Five-star guard/small forward Alex Constanza, a top-20 national prospect in the 2026 class from Florida, who officially visited Syracuse basketball last fall, is headed to the Big East Conference.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-8 Constanza verbally committed to Georgetown. A huge congrats to Alex! These days, the Orange wasn't in the mix for Constanza.

The Orange first offered Constanza in mid-January of 2024, as I first reported. He took an official visit to the Hill in October of last year, and that trip to Central New York went quite well. At one point, Constanza was a priority recruit for the 'Cuse in its 2026 class.
His dad had told me a while back that his son may have looked to take a second trip to Syracuse basketball, although that didn't transpire. Things then seemed to have cooled off between Constanza and the Orange staff.
Constanza is spending his senior season at the powerhouse Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio. This past July, Syracuse basketball coaches were in for him during a live period in PUMA's PRO16 league. However, when I texted with Constanza's dad last month, he said that there had been "zero communication since July" among the Orange staff and Constanza.
Who is Syracuse basketball targeting in the 2026 cycle?
The Orange's top three targets in the 2026 class are five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr. of the Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., five-star shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr. of St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly, Va., and four-star wing/big man Asher Elson of the Atlanta-based professional league Overtime Elite.
Rippey has officially and unofficially visited the Orange. He has the 'Cuse in his top nine. After he makes a trip to N.C. State next weekend, he will trim his list to around five schools, Rippey's dad has told me.
Smith is on an unofficial visit to Syracuse basketball on Sunday, as I first reported. He has the Orange in his top six and also took an unofficial visit to the 'Cuse in September of 2024. Elson has the Orange in his top four and took an official visit to Syracuse basketball last month.
Beyond those three, the 'Cuse is evaluating 2027 four-star wing/small forward Clyde Walters of Overtime Elite as a potential re-class candidate into the 2026 cycle. Let's see if Syracuse basketball gets Walters on campus at some point for a visit.
