Syracuse football is in the mix for an elite wide receiver who just de-committed from Penn State out of the Big Ten Conference.

On Friday, word broke that Khalil Taylor, a four-star wide receiver and a top-40 national prospect in the 2027 class, had reopened his recruitment. He verbally committed to the Nittany Lions in late March of this year.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Taylor, a junior at Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pa., near Pittsburgh, is expected to visit the Orange for the team's home game on Saturday, Oct. 18, against Pittsburgh at the JMA Wireless Dome, according to media reports and recruiting analysts.

Heck yeah.

The Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to Taylor a while back on May 30, 2004, according to his X page.

Syracuse football will get a visit from a 2027 four-star WR who just de-committed from Penn State.

According to recruiting services, Taylor's full offer sheet includes schools such as Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, UConn, UNLV, USF, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.

Per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Taylor is rated at No. 56 nationally, No. 11 at wide receiver and No. 3 in Pennsylvania within the 2027 class. Over at Rivals, he is No. 31 overall, No. 7 at wide receiver and No. 3 in Pennsylvania.

In the 2025 season, according to MaxPreps, Pine-Richland is 7-1 overall. MaxPreps says that so far in the current campaign, Taylor has caught 12 passes for 264 yards and eight touchdowns, although I'm not sure if those stats are completely comprehensive.

To date, head coach Fran Brown and his staff have six verbal commits in a 2027 class that is ranked No. 4 around the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Syracuse football coaches are in pursuit of numerous top-flight 2027 wide receivers. Beyond Taylor, they include four-star Matthew Gregory of Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown, Pa., four-star Javien Robinson of McKeesport Area Senior High School in McKeesport, Pa., and five-star Nick Lennear of Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Lennear is high school teammates with Syracuse football 2026 verbal commit Calvin Russell lll, a five-star wide receiver and a top-25 national prospect in his class.
