Aiden Tobiason, a four-star transfer guard from Temple, officially committed to Syracuse basketball last week, according to SU Athletics.

National analysts and scouts tell me that the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Tobiason, a sophomore, will provide the Orange with a three-level scoring threat in new head coach Gerry McNamara's system.

Tobiason has great size for a shooting guard/small forward, he's athletic, he finishes well around the rim and his free-throw shooting is solid, experts say. The last component - his shooting at the charity stripe - will be welcomed by 'Cuse fans, given that the team connected on just 64.8 percent from the free-throw line in the 2025-26 season, one of the worst marks among Division I hoops programs.

In 2025-26, Tobiason had a breakout sophomore stanza for American Conference member Temple. He averaged 35.3 minutes, 15.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while making 48.0 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Tobiason recently told Syracuse.com that he wants to shoot 90 percent or better at the charity stripe in the upcoming 2026-27 season. Yes, please. It's possible that McNamara will utilize a three-guard line-up this coming campaign, and I anticipate that Tobiason will be in the squad's starting rotation.

Syracuse basketball got a good scorer in 4-star transfer guard Aiden Tobiason.

In national transfer rankings from 247Sports, Tobiason checks in as four stars, No. 103 overall and No. 16 at shooting guard. The X account KJ Scouting says that Tobiason has a 7-foot-1 wingspan and, this past season, was one of the top non-big finishers in the country, connecting on 66 percent at the rim.

KJ Scouting calls the Orange signee "one of the best long-term NBA Draft prospects in college basketball. ... Tobiason has the tools and athleticism you want from a modern-day wing and his mix of finishing, catch and shoot shooting, creation, craft, cutting, and mid-range scoring makes him an extremely valuable player."

Sam Kayser, a top national analyst covering high school and college hoops, tells me that Tobiason is known for his shooting and three-level scoring. "He has a solid bag ... and can score it a variety of ways," Kayser says.

In the 2024 prep class, Tobiason was a three-star prospect and an award-winning standout from St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Del. He averaged 18.8 points per game as a senior and was named the Delaware state player of the year, conference player of the year and first-team All-State.
