4-star Mekai Brown is elite edge rusher, and Syracuse football is recruiting him hard

Syracuse football coaches are recruiting one of the top edge rushers in the 2027 class hard these days, according to 247Sports.

That defensive end/outside linebacker is consensus four-star prospect Mekai Brown, who is a junior at the Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, Conn. The Orange staff offered a scholarship to Brown in early February of this year.

Last month, Brown put out an X post where he indicated that he might be visiting the Hill in late October, perhaps for the Orange's home game on Halloween against North Carolina. Stay tuned on that.

While his recruitment could have a way to go, Brown's scholarship offer sheet also includes teams such as Boston College, Florida, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, UConn, Southern California, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Vanderbilt.

Syracuse football is prioritizing 2027 four-star edge Mekai Brown.

Brown is highly ranked in the junior class. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and 247Sports place him at No. 118 overall, No. 16 at edge and No. 1 in Connecticut.

The industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking has Brown at No. 130 nationally, No. 20 at edge and No. 2 in Connecticut. He's a little further down nationwide at Rivals (No. 146) and ESPN (No. 161).

According to his X page, Brown visited Syracuse football for a spring practice in late March. Also, in mid-May, Brown had an in-school visit with Orange assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson.

Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his assistants are off to a solid start with their 2027 class. To date, the Orange has six verbal pledges in this cycle. All half-dozen commits are rated three stars, and this 'Cuse 2027 class is currently No. 5 overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The Orange's 2027 verbal commits are:
•Defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery from Pennsylvania
•Athlete Tristin Hughes from Ohio
•Defensive back Travis Miles from New Jersey
•Athlete Davion Crumitie from Florida
•Athlete Tank White from Florida
•Quarterback Justin Dixon from Maryland

On the 247Sports Web site, every one of of these Syracuse football verbal pledges is in the top 50 nationally at his respective position. Plus, the Orange staff is in pursuit of numerous high-four-star and even five-star prospects in the 2027 cycle.
