Dawayne Galloway Jr., an elite 2025 four-star cornerback/athlete from Ohio who officially visited Syracuse football in June, has reopened his recruitment.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Galloway gave a verbal commitment to Big Ten Conference school Purdue in early July, but then in recent days, he said via his X page that he was de-committing from the Boilermakers and would reopen his recruiting process.

The new Orange staff, led by first-year head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, offered a scholarship to Galloway on December 20 of last year.

Galloway, a football and track star, had been competing for Marion-Franklin High School in Columbus, Ohio. According to recruiting services, it appears he is now suiting up for another Columbus program, Walnut Ridge High School.

Former Syracuse football 2025 four-star target Dawayne Galloway Jr. is back on the market.

This past January, during one of the Orange's junior days, Galloway unofficially visited the 'Cuse. Then, from June 14 to June 16 of this year, he took an official visit to Syracuse football.

Last February, Galloway disclosed a top 12 of the Orange, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Colorado, West Virginia, Georgia, Michigan, Purdue, Texas A&M, UCF and Penn State.

Within the 2025 cycle, the majority of recruiting services place him in the top 200 nationally. Currently, Galloway's highest rankings in the senior class come via On3, which has him at No. 140 overall, No. 16 at cornerback and No. 7 in Ohio.

At the time of this writing, the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking rated Galloway at No. 168 nationwide, No. 21 at cornerback and No. 7 in Ohio within the 2025 cycle.

To date, Syracuse football coaches have secured at least 30 verbal pledges in their 2025 class, a cycle that hovers around No. 35 around the country, per several recruiting Web sites.

Among these 'Cuse commitments, there are several 2025 prospects who play in the secondary. For one, in late September, four-star athlete/defensive back and top-125 national prospect Demetres Samuel Jr. of Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla., flipped his verbal pledge back to Syracuse football from Southeastern Conference member Florida.

For what it's worth, on Monday, Rivals.com national analyst Greg Smith projected that Galloway will ultimately land at another SEC team, Kentucky.

I'll certainly monitor if the Orange coaching staff makes another pursuit of Galloway.
