Five-star junior wing Joson Sanon had received interest from Syracuse basketball coaches, and now that interest has turned into a formal scholarship offer.
On Tuesday night, in a post on his X page, the 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward said that he had picked up an offer from the Orange coaching staff. Sanon is an elite prospect in the 2025 class, as all of the primary recruiting services rate him as a top-20 overall player in this cycle.
Sanon is a standout junior at the Vermont Academy, a prep school in Saxtons River, Vt. During the most recent AAU season, he earned a lot of high praise from national analysts and scouts for his play as a member of the Boston-based Expressions Elite in Nike’s EYBL league.
Syracuse basketball faces stiff competition for Sanon, who holds an array of impressive offers from various high-major programs. In November of last year, he told top analyst/scout Jamie Shaw of On3 that he wanted to hear from the Orange.
Once the contact period for the 2025 class opened up this past June 15, enabling college coaches to initiate direct communication with prospects in this cycle, numerous social media posts indicated that the ‘Cuse coaching staff reached out to Sanon.
Syracuse basketball has offered 2025 five-star wing Joson Sanon.
In early July, Sanon played up a division for the 17U team of Expressions Elite at the EYBL’s annual Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C. At Peach Jam, he averaged 25.8 minutes, 15.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, while connecting on 42.0 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line.
According to recruiting services, besides the Orange, Sanon’s lengthy offer sheet includes teams such as Alabama, Arizona, Boston College, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Marquette, UMass, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Providence, Bryant, Kansas, LSU, 2023 national champion UConn, Mike Hopkins-led Washington, Creighton, Maryland and Miami.
When I wrote this article on Tuesday evening, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite had Sanon at No. 10 overall, No. 2 at small forward and No. 1 in Vermont within the 2025 cycle.
Over at the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, he was placed at No. 12 nationally, No. 5 at shooting guard and No. 1 in Vermont within the junior class. ESPN, on a nationwide scale, has Sanon at No. 10.
To date, Syracuse basketball coaches have offered nearly 20 prospects in the 2025 class, including numerous four-star and five-star players who suit up at either shooting guard or small forward. Among Orange recruits at those positions are four-star Kiyan Anthony, who took an official visit to the Hill this past weekend, and four-star Sadiq White Jr., who went on an unofficial visit to the ‘Cuse in mid-September.
