Syracuse Basketball: 4-star commit Elijah Moore joins former 5-star recruit
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star commit Elijah Moore, arguably the top long-range shooter nationally in his class, will spend his senior year at a different high school in New York City, and several experts praised the move.
Per a post on X, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard has transferred to the Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx, N.Y., which is part of the Atlanta-based professional league Overtime Elite.
As a junior in the 2022-23 season, Moore was a standout for Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, getting named as a junior to the New York state Catholic High School Athletic Association “AA” All-League first team.

At Our Saviour Lutheran, Elijah Moore will join his former Cardinal Hayes and AAU teammate Ian Jackson, a 2024 five-star guard who held a ‘Cuse scholarship offer but is verbally committed to North Carolina.
Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star commit Elijah Moore will play his senior year in Overtime Elite.
In addition to starring for Cardinal Hayes, Moore this spring and summer was sensational for the 17U team of the Bronx-based Wiz Kids in the Adidas 3SSB league. The Circuit named Moore its offensive MVP on the 3SSB circuit, after he averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest, while connecting on an impressive 46.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Although several recruiting services rate Elijah Moore in the top 60 nationwide of the 2024 cycle, some recruiting Web sites, surprisingly, don’t even have him in their top 100-150, which I frankly don’t get.
Moore, in late January, verbally committed to Syracuse basketball over other finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State. He and four-star power forward Donnie Freeman from Washington, D.C., make up a two-member 2024 class for the Orange that currently hovers around No. 10 across the country.
Per an article from Mike Waters of Syracuse.com, Elijah Moore at Overtime Elite will “be on scholarship and not receive a salary in order to retain his college eligibility.” Moore can also potentially secure name, image and likeness opportunities that it appears may be available to Overtime Elite commits.
Late last month, Orange recruiting target Tyler Jackson from Baltimore signed on with Overtime Elite as well. The 6-foot-3 Jackson, a 2025 five-star point guard, was a standout as a sophomore for the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore.
Offered a scholarship by Syracuse basketball in late April, Jackson is a legit contender to take an official visit to the Hill in the future, several recruiting analysts have told me of late. In early July, he helped lead the Baltimore-based Team Thrill to the 16U title in the Under Armour Association league (“UAA”).
Regarding Elijah Moore, I talked to several recruiting experts who extensively cover high-school hoops in New York City and around the Empire State. These analysts say they think Moore is a strong fit at Our Saviour Lutheran, especially since he will once again team up with Jackson to form a lethal backcourt for the Falcons.
Conversely, losing Moore and Jackson is a tough blow for Cardinal Hayes, which is often one of the top teams in the loaded New York state Catholic High School Athletic Association.
"Brian Reichert, an expert in high-school basketball and recruiting for NYCHoops.net on the Rivals.com network, wrote in an article that Elijah Moore has “terrific size, NBA range, a smooth stroke and has put in a lot of work on his ability to create with the ball. Moore is clutch, fearless, a high character kid and an amazing teammate on the floor.”"
Reichert believes that the Syracuse basketball 2024 four-star commit will prove a big contributor to Our Saviour Lutheran in the upcoming 2023-24 season. Reichert adds, “He will probably be the best overall shooter in the league and will have a great opportunity to get some more notoriety before he gets to upstate New York.”
