Syracuse basketball recently picked up a commitment from Auburn transfer Chance Westry, who played limited minutes as a freshman with the Tigers due to injury.

However, the 6-foot-6 Westry boasts all kinds of talent, promise and potential due to his comprehensive skill-set that extends well to both ends of the floor, according to national recruiting analysts and scouts.

First and foremost, with his height, length, court vision and play-making abilities, Chance Westry is likely to suit up at both point guard and shooting guard for the Orange looking ahead to the 2023-24 season.

Additionally, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he is also a potential option for head coach Adrian Autry on the wing as a small forward. Whether or not Westry is in the team’s 2023-24 starting rotation remains to be seen, but I absolutely expect him to play ample minutes for the ‘Cuse in the upcoming stanza.

Syracuse basketball landed a huge pick-up in Auburn transfer Chance Westry.

In a recent article, Jonathan Givony, an NBA Draft analyst at ESPN, said of the new Orange commit, “A 6-foot-6 guard who can also play on the wing, Westry has a feel for the game operating out of ball screens, defensive versatility and an ability to play on or off the ball that give him significant long-term potential.”

"SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister, in a recent story, said that Westry’s skill-set “is versatile enough to play on the wing as a small forward as well. Westry is great off the dribble, a willing passer to set up teammates for easy opportunities and is a natural scorer. He was a highly coveted recruit for a reason. Westry combines that length with supreme athleticism, excellent body control and quick feet. Developing a consistent three point shot along with continuing to get stronger are the areas of improvement that could take his game to the next level. Given his form on his jumper and willingness to work behind the scenes, those should come.”"

Chance Westry, a four-star, top-50 national prospect in the 2022 cycle, was a long-time recruiting target of Syracuse basketball coaches.

The Harrisburg, Pa., native received a scholarship offer from the Orange in the summer of 2019 and did later on take an official visit to the Hill. He had Syracuse basketball in his initial top 10 but ultimately committed to Southeastern Conference member Auburn.

Prior to joining the Tigers, Westry was a standout as a senior for the powerhouse AZ Compass Prep School in Chandler, Ariz., which earned an invite to the prestigious 2022 GEICO Nationals.

Besides Chance Westry, last month, Autry and his assistants secured a commitment from Central New York native J.J. Starling, a freshman guard who is transferring from Notre Dame to Syracuse basketball.
