In new national rankings from one of the primary recruiting services, a sophomore wing who has said that he would like to hear from Syracuse basketball has attained five stars and jumped into the top 15 across the country in his class.

In late November of last year, 2025 shooting guard/small forward Joson Sanon discussed his recruiting process at that juncture with On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw. In that interview, the 6-foot-6 Sanon said that he would like to hear from several college squads, including the Orange and North Carolina.

I do not have direct knowledge of whether the ‘Cuse coaching staff has been in contact for Sanon, although at the same time, I’m not aware of Syracuse basketball coaches having offered him a scholarship.

As we’ve detailed in numerous columns lately, the Orange has offered a handful of high-school prospects in the 2025 class. I’d love to see the ‘Cuse ultimately offer Sanon as well.

Syracuse basketball should pursue 2025 five-star wing Joson Sanon.

When Rivals.com refreshed its national ratings for the sophomore cycle not too long ago, Sanon went from unranked to five stars and No. 12 overall. That’s a massive leap.

Sanon is a standout for the Vermont Academy, a prep school in Saxtons River, Vt. During the most recent AAU circuit that occurred last summer, Sanon was terrific for the Boston Amateur Basketball Club in Nike’s EYBL league.

He seemed to have caught the attention of numerous national recruiting analysts and scouts for his play in grassroots basketball during the summer months of 2022. Late last year, Sanon also shined at the prestigious National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Conn.

As a sophomore, his recruiting process is in its early stages. His offer sheet, so far, includes Nebraska, Providence, Marquette, Iowa, Boston College, Bryant and UMass.

College coaches can’t initiate direct communication with 2025 players until mid-June of this year, so I fully expect Sanon’s list of suitors to balloon at some point in the future.

When I wrote this column, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rated Sanon as five stars, No. 25 overall, No. 4 at small forward and No. 1 in Vermont. Meanwhile, 247Sports has him as four stars, No. 39 nationally, No. 8 at small forward and No. 1 in Vermont.

At the time of this writing, the industry-generated On3 Consensus placed Sanon as four stars and No. 43 nationwide, while On3 ranks him as four stars and No. 32 overall in the sophomore class.

To date in the 2025 cycle, Syracuse basketball coaches have offered guard Darius Adams, who is four stars or five stars depending on the recruiting service, four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony, four-star wing Brandon Stores Jr., four-star guard Jerry Easter II and four-star wing Efeosa Oliogu.

Hopefully, sooner rather than later, Joson Sanon will also officially be a recruiting target for the Orange in the sophomore class.
