Fast-rising big man Isaiah Miranda, a 2023 four-star prospect who held a Syracuse basketball scholarship offer, recently trimmed his list of remaining suitors down to eight, according to media reports.

The Orange, unfortunately but not surprisingly, didn’t make the cut. Those that did are Southern California, UCLA, Oregon, Louisville, Georgetown, Texas, UConn and Rhode Island, per a report from On3 national analyst Joe Tipton.

The elite 7-foot-1 power forward/center, who has received more than 20 offers from a range of high-major programs throughout his recruiting process, has taken official visits to USC and Georgetown along with unofficial visits to UCLA and UConn, according to Tipton.

The On3 report adds that Miranda will soon officially visit Louisville, and he “also hopes to visit Texas, Rhode Island, and Oregon.”

Syracuse basketball offered 2023 four-star big man Isaiah Miranda last November.

Based on reports and interviews I’ve perused ever since Miranda picked up an Orange offer, I didn’t get the sense that the ‘Cuse ever emerged as a big-time contender for him.

When we wrote about Miranda this past April, some of the teams mentioned as being firmly in the mix for him included Southern Cal, Georgetown and Connecticut.

The native of Pawtucket in Rhode Island, Miranda previously attended the Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Mass.

For the upcoming 2022-23 stanza, he will spend his senior year at the Southern California Academy in Northridge, Calif., which is the same school of 2023 four-star big man Drew Fielder.

The 6-foot-9 Fielder, a power forward/center, was recently offered by Syracuse basketball, and the ‘Cuse coaching staff reportedly is trying to get him to the Hill for an official visit at some point.

To date, the Orange doesn’t have any commitments in its 2023 cycle, and I didn’t expect Miranda to include the ‘Cuse among his finalists.

That being said, Syracuse basketball coaches have reportedly offered scholarships to more than 20 players in the 2023 class, and I feel like this cycle for the Orange, to date, has proven a disappointment.

Besides Fielder, Syracuse basketball is in pursuit of at least two other 2023 prospects, and they are four-star guard Mike Williams and big man William Patterson.

The 7-foot Patterson and the 6-foot-4 Williams are both seniors at the Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Md.

Whichever squad ends up getting Miranda will have a game-changer in its 2023 class. He is a top-10 power forward/center in this cycle as well as a consensus top-50 national prospect.

At the time of this writing, on a national scale, Miranda was No. 22 per On3, No. 28 via the industry-generated On3 Consensus and Rivals.com, No. 30 from 247Sports, No. 33 according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, and No. 47 via ESPN.
