Syracuse football coaches have offered a scholarship to phenomenal high-school quarterback Stone Saunders, he recently said on Twitter.
The 6-foot-2 Saunders is a member of the 2025 recruiting cycle and put forth a ridiculous freshman campaign a few months back for Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pa.
Saunders, who already boasts at least 10 scholarship offers, compiled 3,037 passing yards with 46 touchdowns, and only five interceptions, in the 2021 season for Bishop McDevitt High School, according to media reports and recruiting services.
For those efforts, Saunders has picked up all kinds of awards and honors for his freshman stanza. While the competition for his services will prove significant, I credit Orange coaches for giving it a shot here.
Syracuse football recently entered the mix for stellar quarterback Stone Saunders.
Saunders was a member of the freshman All-America second team in the 2021 term, according to an article by Stephen Spiewak of MaxPreps.
Additionally, he was named to the Pennsylvania Football Writers’ Class 4A All-State squad, per an article from Eric Epler on pennlive.com.
As a freshman, Saunders helped lead his team to a 12-2 overall record in 2021, and Bishop McDevitt High School advanced to the PIAA Class 4A championship contest, where it lost 34-27 to Aliquippa High School out of Aliquippa, Pa., according to reports.
Obviously, it’s really early on in Saunders’ recruitment, but he’s already attracting a lot of attention on a national scale.
Per his Twitter page, recruiting services and reports, besides the ‘Cuse, Saunders’ other offers include from Michigan, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Louisville, Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota and Bowling Green.
From his Twitter account, it appears that Saunders has made visits to Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M and Rutgers.
What’s more, under his bio on Rivals.com, teams reportedly showing interest in Saunders include Baylor, Penn State, Rutgers and Texas.
I have no doubt that the high-major offers are going to continue flowing in for Saunders, and it will also probably be quite challenging for Syracuse football to prevail in his recruitment.
But as I always like to say, you can’t pick up a top-flight prospect until you offer him first. It’s pretty darn cool that the Orange has offered Stone Saunders.
