Nearly 50 high-school prospects across various recruiting cycles, including several players who hold Syracuse basketball scholarship offers, were recently selected for a USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team minicamp that will take place in early April, according to a press release.
Per the announcement, 48 players in the 2023, 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes were picked for the minicamp that will run from April 1-3 in New Orleans, in conjunction with the 2022 NCAA Tournament Final Four.
Players and coaches for this event were selected by the USA Basketball men’s developmental national team committee, the media statement says.
The high-school prospects will be involved in on-court drills and scrimmages. Additionally, players and their parents will participate in some educational programs put forth by both USA Basketball and the NCAA.
Let’s see which players with Syracuse basketball offers will attend this minicamp.
In the class of 2023, participants are expected to include five-star guard/wing Matas Buzelis, five-star point guard D.J. Wagner and five-star power forward G.G. Jackson.
Buzelis and Wagner recently were named the 2021-22 Gatorade Players of the Year in New Hampshire and New Jersey, respectively. They along with Jackson all hold offers from the ‘Cuse coaching staff, and each of them is a top-10 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle.
The 6-foot-10 Buzelis suits up for the powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., and was offered by the Orange in November of 2020.
The 6-foot-3 Wagner, a standout for Camden High School in Camden, N.J., landed a Syracuse basketball offer this past August at the team’s annual Elite Camp.
The 6-foot-8 Jackson, out of Ridge View High School in Columbia, S.C., was offered by the ‘Cuse in August of 2020, and it represented his first offer from a college squad.
Switching over to the 2024 class, those picked for this USA Basketball event include five-star guard Ian Jackson and five-star wing Vyctorius Miller.
According to media reports in recent months, Syracuse basketball coaches have shown interest in the 6-foot-6 Jackson and the 6-foot-5 Miller.
Jackson attends Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., while Miller competes for Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, Calif. Each is deemed a top-five player across the country in this cycle, according to some recruiting services.
A huge congrats to all of these high-school players for making the cut for this prestigious USA Basketball minicamp.
