We noted that Syracuse football inked national letters of intent with 13 prospects in the 2022 class on the first day of the early signing period, plus a transfer.

But during this early signing period, the Orange has also swung and missed on a handful of 2022 prospects whom the ‘Cuse had offered or showed interest in but opted for other college teams.

One of those recruiting targets is 2022 three-star linebacker Garrison Madden. According to his bio on the 247Sports Web site, Syracuse football offered the 6-foot-2 Madden in early November, and he took an official visit to the Hill earlier this month.

Madden has committed to Southern California. He is a top-55 linebacker, per 247Sports, and Madden attends Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Ga.

According to media reports, the Orange had pursued 2022 three-star running back Jordaan Bailey, who committed to Pittsburgh. The 5-foot-11 Bailey, out of Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Fla., is rated as the No. 36 running back across the country in his class, according to 247Sports.

A few other recruiting misses for Syracuse football during the early signing period.

Cam East, a 2022 three-star offensive tackle who had originally committed to Mississippi State but then de-committed in early December, was offered a scholarship by the Orange on December 14, according to his Twitter page.

The 6-foot-7 East, though, has signed on with another Southeastern Conference squad, Ole Miss. He attends St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, and East is placed as the No. 46 offensive tackle in 2022, per 247Sports.

Terrance McClain, a 2022 offensive tackle, was offered by the ‘Cuse not too long ago. The 6-foot-4 McClain, from Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan., has signed a national letter of intent to play for Memphis.

In early November, per the 247Sports Web site, Syracuse football offered three-star wide receiver Chris Reed, and he took an official visit to the ‘Cuse earlier this month.

The 6-foot-1 Reed, out of Wekiva High School in Apopka, Fla., has committed to Utah. He is rated as the No. 119 wide receiver in the 2022 cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Finally, 2022 three-star quarterback Henry Belin has signed with Duke, where he had previously verbally committed to, although the Blue Devils have had a change at head coach of late.

According to reports, the 6-foot-3 Belin was deemed as a high-priority target for Syracuse football at the QB position in the 2022 class.

He attends Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., and is the No. 42 quarterback in this cycle, according to 247Sports.
