Saturday was a really rough day for Orange sports teams and ‘Cuse fans, but Syracuse football star running back Sean Tucker did manage to make history.

The sophomore, who is still in the mix for the national rushing title with one game left in the 2021 regular season for the Orange, carried 13 times for 105 yards, according to cuse.com, as Syracuse football got crushed by No. 20 N.C. State on the road, 41-17.

With that output, Tucker has broken the single-season record on the Hill for rushing yards. To date in 2021, he has registered 1,467 yards on the ground, putting him past the legendary Joe Morris, who rushed for 1,372 yards in 1979.

Huge congratulations go out to Sean Tucker, who is having himself some kind of 2021 stanza. Unfortunately, though, Syracuse football (5-6, 2-5) got blown out for the second Atlantic Coast Conference clash in a row.

Quarterback Garrett Shrader continues to struggle in the passing game, and the Orange defense allowed roughly 400 total yards, according to ESPN statistics. The Wolfpack netting 28 points in the second quarter basically did the ‘Cuse in.

The Orange’s regular-stanza finale is this coming Saturday, Nov. 27, at home versus nationally-ranked Pittsburgh. It will be Senior Night for the ‘Cuse, in a kick-off planned for 7:30 pm.

Syracuse football RB Sean Tucker shined on a rough day for Orange sports.

Besides Syracuse football, the Orange’s two basketball squads suffered losses on Saturday as well. The Syracuse basketball women’s team, suiting up in its first game of the 2021 Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis, was dispatched by South Florida, 77-53, per cuse.com.

The ‘Cuse women’s squad (2-2) led No. 23 South Florida by five points after the first quarter, but the Bulls went on a big run before halftime and cruised fairly easily against the Orange after the intermission.

In the Bahamas tournament, the Syracuse basketball women’s team will next face Minnesota on Sunday, Nov. 21, with tip-off slated for 5 pm.

Lastly, as we detailed in another column, the Orange men’s squad saw a 15-point advantage in the first half wither away, as New York state neighbor Colgate handled the ‘Cuse, 100-85, for the Raiders’ first conquest of Syracuse basketball (2-1) in multiple decades.

Colgate absolutely torched the Orange 2-3 zone, connecting on 18 baskets from beyond the arc. While the Syracuse basketball defense left a lot to be desired, junior point guard Joe Girard III continues to excel on the other end of the floor.

Versus the Raiders, Girard tallied a team-high 27 points, along with eight assists and an impressive seven rebounds, according to a box score from Syracuse.com. The ‘Cuse next plays at 5 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 24, against VCU in its first encounter of the Battle 4 Atlantis tourney.

Hopefully, all of these Orange squads can turn things around. Saturday was not fun at all for ‘Cuse Nation.
