The top remaining target for Syracuse basketball in the 2022 recruiting cycle announced his collegiate destination on Thursday evening, and four-star wing Chris Bunch has selected the ‘Cuse.
The 6-foot-7 Bunch, who is a top-60 prospect in this class according to 247Sports, received more than 20 high-major offers throughout his recruitment.
According to media reports and recruiting services, his other offers included from Washington, Rutgers, Florida State, Oregon, Seton Hall, Southern California, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Creighton, Iowa State, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Massachusetts.
Prior to his commitment announcement, Bunch was down to three schools, and they were the Orange, Mike Hopkins-led Washington and Rutgers.
Syracuse basketball and the Scarlet Knights offered him in April of 2020. The Huskies offered Bunch in August of this year. He visited Rutgers and Washington once, and Bunch took two official visits to the Hill.
Syracuse basketball courted four-star Chris Bunch for a long time.
Bunch, who hails from the west coast, is a consensus top-100 player in the 2022 cycle. He is ranked as high as No. 58 overall, per 247Sports, and Bunch’s stock has soared of late. Additionally, multiple recruiting services deem him a top-20 small forward in this class.
As a junior, Bunch suited up for De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. However, in his senior season, which recently got going, Bunch is playing for the powerhouse Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah.
In recent months, particularly as Bunch took two trips to Central New York and said a lot of positive things about the ‘Cuse program in interviews, the Orange seemed to have solid buzz with him.
On Thursday afternoon, one national analyst from Rivals.com logged a prediction in the direction of the ‘Cuse for Bunch, but I didn’t see any on the 247Sports Web site.
Prior to Bunch’s reveal, Syracuse basketball had verbal commitments from four talented prospects in the 2022 cycle.
Four-star wing Justin Taylor, from the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., committed in late June. Four-star point guard Quadir Copeland, also out of the IMG Academy, chose the ‘Cuse in August.
In late September, the Orange got a verbal commitment from power forward/center Peter Carey, who attends the Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Mass.
And earlier this month, three-star power forward Maliq Brown picked Syracuse basketball over four other finalists, which were Georgetown, Penn State, Virginia Tech and N.C. State.
On Wednesday, the Orange’s 2022 class was ranked No. 18 nationally, according to both the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com.
