Chance Westry, a 2022 four-star guard who received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball more than two years ago, is getting a lot of buzz as it pertains to one suitor from the Southeastern Conference, according to multiple national analysts and recruiting insiders.

The 6-foot-5 Westry, a consensus top-40 prospect in his class, disclosed in early August a top 10 of the Orange, Mike Hopkins-led Washington, Maryland, Auburn, LSU, Connecticut, Southern California, Arizona State, Nebraska and DePaul.

While Westry did take an official visit to the Hill over the summer, my sense is that the ‘Cuse isn’t really a significant contender for him at this juncture. But that’s just my own personal take. I’m not a recruiting analyst, and I’m not in Westry’s inner circle.

In recent months, LSU was rumored as the possible front-runner to land him, but then reports surfaced that the Tigers were no longer in the mix for Westry.

Around the time that Westry took an official visit to Florida last month, the Gators received some analyst predictions for him. But now a third SEC squad looks to potentially be the favorite for Westry.

Syracuse basketball four-star prospect Chance Westry may soon announce.

On Tuesday, at least eight projections had been made for Westry in the direction of Auburn on the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com. Westry has visited those Tigers, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he ends up picking Auburn.

Several media reports of late have suggested that Westry may announce his collegiate destination on October 31, so we’ll obviously continue to monitor that. Additionally, some reports say that Westry plans to visit Auburn again on October 30, the day before his scheduled commitment announcement.

Orange coaches offered Westry in the summer of 2019, and there seemed to be some buzz between this stellar 2022 player and the ‘Cuse for a while.

I was encouraged when he elected to take a trip to Central New York, but it just seems lately that Westry is focused on other teams, and Syracuse basketball is focused on other prospects. Again, though, this is simply my own opinion.

A lot of Orange fans have said on social media and in chat rooms that they hoped Westry would choose the ‘Cuse. He definitely appeared to be an Orange fan-favorite among 2022 players whom Syracuse basketball coaches have pursued.

Ultimately, though, it looks like Westry could be headed to the SEC.
