Syracuse football has its biggest non-conference game against northeast rival Rutgers this Saturday afternoon.

Syracuse football cruised by Ohio 29-9 in the 2021 season opener. Next up for the Orange is Rutgers, a recruiting rival and the premiere non-conference opponent for SU this season.

Sean Tucker and Duce Chestnut were the Co-MVPs against the Bobcats. Tucker, the Orange’s starting running back, rushed for 181 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries.

Chestnut, Syracuse’s top freshman, delivered one of the best performances of any true freshman in the country. The New Jersey native finished the game with eight tackles, 0.5 for a loss, and an interception to cap off the win.

The Orange will need to build off of that energy against a much more challenging opponent in Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights glided by Temple 61 to 14, capitalizing on four forced turnovers. The two northeast schools will each have a chance at a very convincing win inside the Carrier Dome this Saturday, September 11, at 2 pm EST.
