Syracuse Basketball: 4-star point guard with soaring stock would fit SU well
By Neil Adler
As college coaches are now able to make direct contact with 2023 high-school players, four-star point guard Elmarko Jackson has seen his recruitment pick up a ton of steam, with reported interest between him and Syracuse basketball.
The 6-foot-3 Jackson is a sophomore at the Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn, Pa., and he runs on the AAU circuit with WeR1 Basketball.
While Jackson isn’t currently rated on a national scale but all of the recruiting services, I’m confident that he will be at some point in the near future.
When Rivals.com recently updated its national rankings for the 2023 cycle, Jackson checked in at four stars and No. 31 overall. He is an ultra-fast, dynamic point guard in this class.
I’ve read multiple media reports of late that speak to Orange coaches reaching out regarding Jackson. We also published a piece not too long ago, which said that Jackson was hoping to hear from the ‘Cuse coaching staff.
Syracuse basketball has shown interest in an elite 2023 point guard.
According to some comments that I’ve seen about Jackson from national analysts and other recruiting insiders, the 2023 prospect is a versatile point guard who can score at all three levels, he has strong court vision as a facilitator, and he’s an excellent defender.
For these reasons, among others, I believe that Jackson would fit in nicely within the Orange system, including its 2-3 zone defense. That being said, Syracuse basketball is already pursuing multiple excellent players in the 2023 class, both four-star and five-star guys.
According to recruiting services, media reports and Jackson’s Twitter page, he holds scholarship offers from teams such as Maryland, Miami, St. John’s, Penn State, Minnesota, VCU, Bryant, Ole Miss, California and Seton Hall.
Jackson reportedly has also received interest from squads including Michigan, Georgetown, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Xavier. If Michigan gets significantly involved with Jackson, that would likely prove an immense challenge for other contenders to overcome in his recruitment.
According to a recent article by 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, Jackson has taken an unofficial visit to Maryland and is in the process of planning other visits as well.
We’ll continue to monitor any and all involvement that Syracuse basketball coaches may have in Jackson moving forward.
