Syracuse basketball is pursuing a range of top-flight talents in the 2023 cycle, but it doesn’t seem that a five-star wing from the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., will be one of them.

In mid-June, we published a piece detailing that top-30 player Taylor Bowen had been hearing a good amount from the Orange coaching staff, according to an interview that he gave with Rivals.com national analyst Jamie Shaw.

The 6-foot-8 Bowen, a sophomore, previously said that he would transfer for the upcoming campaign from the St. George’s School in Middletown, R.I., to the Brewster Academy, a powerhouse prep-school squad that has sent numerous players to Central New York in recent terms.

Fast-forward to more recently, and Bowen said in an article by Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, that the schools heavily involved with him of late include blue-blood group Kentucky, former Big East Conference rival Connecticut and Arkansas, which went on a run to the Elite Eight in the 2021 Big Dance.

Syracuse basketball may not be a contender for 2023 five-star wing Taylor Bowen.

Now, just because Arkansas, UConn and Kentucky are heavily involved with Bowen for the time being doesn’t mean he will select one of those teams. Nor does it absolutely signify that the ‘Cuse has no shot with this stellar prospect.

In mid-June, college coaches could begin making direct contact with 2023 high-school players, and Bowen has seen his recruiting process greatly expand.

But as a sophomore, his recruitment likely has a long way to go, and things can shift rapidly in this business. Let’s see how it all pans out for Bowen.

According to a review of various recruiting Web sites, Bowen holds scholarship offers from squads such as Dayton, Marquette, Southern California, Maryland, Penn State, Connecticut, LSU, Arkansas, Providence, Rutgers, Iowa, Vermont and George Mason.

Additionally, his bio on the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com notes interest from numerous other big-time teams, including Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan State and Florida State.

He is a consensus top-10 small forward in his class. Nationally in the 2023 cycle, the 247Sports Composite has Bowen at No. 23 overall, followed by ESPN at No. 24, Rivals.com at No. 26 and 247Sports at No. 28.

All of the primary recruiting services rate Bowen as either four stars or five stars.
