Syracuse basketball was the first high-major program to offer 2023 four-star prospect Gavin Griffiths, and hopefully that will pay off for the Orange as his recruitment continues to heat up.

Griffiths, an exceptionally talented 6-foot-7 wing, is a sophomore at the Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn. He runs on the AAU circuit with the Boston-based Expressions Elite Basketball.

As we detailed in a recent column on Griffiths, he played quite well in the recently held Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, which culminated at the 2021 Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C.

For his efforts during this multi-week event, Rivals.com national analyst Jamie Shaw named Griffiths as his break-out 2023 prospect at Nike’s EYBL.

When Rivals.com updated its national ratings for the 2023 cycle not too long ago, Griffiths soared from unranked to four stars and No. 71 overall.

Based on some recent comments from national analysts and other recruiting insiders, I could foresee Griffiths ultimately landing in the top-50 across the country in his class, according to all of the main recruiting services.

Competition will continue to rise for Syracuse basketball four-star target Gavin Griffiths.

The ‘Cuse coaching staff offered a scholarship to Griffiths last October. His list of offers keeps on growing, and it presently features teams such as Iowa, Maryland, Dayton, Rutgers, Bryant, Fairfield, Hofstra, UMass and Siena.

Although his recruiting process will have a way to go, it does appear that the Orange remains firmly in the mix. Per a recent article by Ryan McMullen on ZAGSBLOG.com, Griffiths said that five college squads are currently recruiting him the hardest, at least for the time being.

Those five groups are Syracuse basketball, Dayton, Iowa, Maryland and Connecticut. It’s encouraging that Griffiths noted the ‘Cuse in this context.

"Regarding the Orange, Griffiths said in the ZAGSBLOG.com piece, “Syracuse is in the ACC. Great fans and a great arena to play in. They were also the first high major to offer me.”"

Since college coaches are now able to contact 2023 high-school players directly, and there have been live periods when these coaches can watch recruits in-person, I have no doubt that Griffiths will see his offer list greatly expand.

Griffiths told McMullen that he’s aiming to cut his list of contenders in about a year. Griffiths also said that he’s working to plan a visit to the Hill, which would prove terrific.
